Just had the sparks round to connect my boiler after it was fitted 3 weeks ago.I did offer to connect it myself but was told no,as I may get it wrong!Anyway listen to this, spark aged about 22 turns up with apprentice he proceeds to unscrew fused spur at which point I mention isolation."Its ok it,s fed from immersion circuit" came the reply "no it,s on the ring shall I knock it off?" "ok" says spark, after telling him its off he disconnects wires (no test for dead) so I asks apprentice what the spark has done wrong "nothing" came the reply "what about testing it,s dead?" at which point he waves voltstick over cables. He then connects a 5 core flex to the LNE at spur and the other cores to stat cable, connects them into boiler powers up and all done. After suggesting he actually tests to see if stat works he finds it doesnt,he then opens boiler to reveal he had not connected the return live from stat as he was not shown where to connect it!I produced wiring diagram and showed him where to connect stat to which is 24 volt,we now have a 5 core flex carrying mains voltage and 24v DC in same flex. When I asked him about this and pointed out it was against regs his reply was "well thats how we got told to wire it! Needless to say he didn,t do any earth test afterwards. And they said I may get it wrong!

You've obviously put 'outrageous' comments on for a reaction.

And yes I am qualified. I ask because I wonder why you would put yourself in harms way for no reason, or do you live in "the real world."

Because there were several classrooms full of kids who wouldn't have been able to learn for an hour, and I'd rather work live than under pressure. The risk to me was virtually zero, the live parts in these new industrial boards are very well insulated incase you've never seen in one.
Yes I do live in the real world.
Do you?

Mate, Of course I've seen in these "new industrial boards". (lol)
If you'd quoted something such as compliance with certain BEAMA regs as the reason for working inside them, then I'd accept that, But (violins out) children missing out on education...
Why not just arrange out of hours?
