Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced SPL that complies with BS EN 61672 that can be used for testing smoke and heat alarms?

I'm struggling to find something that is well priced for an infrequent use but still complies.

Thanks

Is this for domestic systems? If it is you meet compliance for the sound pressure levels by designing the system correctly and using the correct equipment. So long as you use smoke alarms to the correct BS number (can't think which one it is right now) and they are within a certain distance of the bedroom door (3m) then compliance with the regs is assumed to be made and a 'N/A' would be put in the tick box on the cert which makes reference to the testing of the SPL.

Sound Level Meters, like all noise measurement instruments, are designed to meet International Standards. The most common of these is IEC 61672 although this may be referred to by a National Standard number such as BS EN 61672 in the UK. This standard defines how the Sound Level Meter should measure and how acurate it should be.

We sell a range of Sound Level Meters, one that stands out as a suitable unit is the: Metrel TEK1345 that meets IEC 61672
Don't forget you also get a 5% discount by using the code: ELECFORUM during checkout :stooge_curly:

Thats great, and just what I was looking for. Don't suppose the 4 in 1 Environmental Test Meter complies with BS EN 61672? I also need a light meter for emergency lighting so may as well ask the question before spending :stooge_curly:

Hi boydpa,

Be careful with relying on BS5446 as this standard is older than BSEN14604. I think BS5446 still applies to heat alarms for domestic installations.
Hope this helps
Best wishes
Rex
