Hi, I am new to the forum but have been looking on here for a while. I have been given my own van as I am coming to the end of my apprenticeship and need to start buying more tools. I have basic hand tools, combi, impact driver and sds but what else do you think that I will need? I am also looking at putting some shelving in the back, it is an old shape combo van so if anybody has any photos they would be appreciated like of where people store their step ladders and tools.

Thanks for taking your time to read through my thread

Hi Jenks. What did your boss or mentor have in their van??

what kind of work did you do as well? a bit hard to suggest tools when we don't know what you do.

its pointless suggesting a circular saw if you only do industrial

we have afew different lads. some had big sets of makita or dewalt tools and van vaults and toolboxes full of tools and others have a toolbag, sds and combi. I just want to know is it worth spending loads of money on tools that are not needed, and what do people recommend to have as essentials.

As already posted by shanky, we don't know what area of electrical contracting you work in. You have basic hand and power tools, you will soon realise what you "could do" with once you are out working on your own and add to it then.

Is this a vauxhall combo? What year is it?

Ill stick up a few pics of what I have done to mine if you like? I'm in bed at the moment, but can post them up tomorrow.

Hi mate, its a 61 plate Vauxhall Combo so it is the shape before what is out now. If you could upload some photos id really appreciate it thanks. :)

Hi mate, until I qualify I am going to be driving to different lads and helping them out. The type of work I will be doing will be installation and maintenance at houses and pubs, we don't really do any industrial work so I don't think it would be worth buying grinders, etc for this.

I reckon you'll be ok with what you have for a bit mate :)

Old shape? Is that the same as a 55 plate that I have I wonder, probably. You can get loads in them if you sort it correctly. I'll stick some photos on tomorrow for you, I think you will like what I have done as although it appears I've chopped the space up a bit, it's more usable.

I've read some of your posts re tools. Your van must be one of the best kitted out around, like a mobile tool shop!! thought you would at least need a vivaro to get it all in :)

a grinder is good for chases, bosch one on offer for ÂŁ35"at screwfix atm.

a cheap circularsaw is very useful when you have to take old floorboards up.

before the others say a hacksaw works, yes they do but not easy when studwall built directly ontop.

no need to get 110 gear because you wont use 110 onsite because you will get sick of the permits and buy battery:D

Since I bought a multitool my circular saw has not turned one revolution. Hope that grinder never gets used in a furnished home :)
