Part 1
We have been asked to supply 6 sockets mounted on a board with a 20amp switch and fed via a 3 core flex & plug top, this is mounted in a display unit where the user can plug in laptops and other display items, we have to supply a certificate for this and i am unsure of which cert to issue, any ideas?.
The stand will be installed in a shopping mall

Part 2
Reading section 711, which is the closest i can get to be relevent for this type of installation it would seem we need to supply an rcd of either s type or time delay at the source of the supply cable, this in our case would mean a plug top device which i dont think exists, any ideas on a way round this without being involved with the mall fixed installation?.
Many thanks Paul

If the client requests certification then the easiest way would be a minor works certificate.

Is the mall ring/radial circuit supplying the designated socket not 30mA rcd protected already?

I'm not sure minor works would be appropriate although i will look closer at that option and the mall socket is not rcd protected, if it was it could cause more problems with discrimination between our rcd and the upstream device.

You're not installing a new circuit are you? So the minor works will suffice but of course you can use an electrical installation certificate if you wish!

I asked about the mall rcd because in effect, that would negate the need for a further rcd downstream.

just what i was going to say. EICs and MWCs are for fixed wiring, not plug-in items. PAT tesx the bugger, stick a label on it.

Is this a new attempt to wind up us regulars?!

Nah, first post. Probably just browsing and found a point of interest.

Good thinking - the other side of that is my garage and also where the gas comes in so probably quite a tidy solution if it comes to it!
