Looks like an extract fan to me the problem is that they make them out of plastic we will have to fitting metal fire proof ones when the 18th addition coms out !!!

APOLOGIES.... I meant to update this last week.

The "mess" was a wall mounted extractor fan, which was burnt in a kitchen fire (started, I believe, by oil or fat).

This is another picky I took!

The same happened in a hotel some years ago. Ventilation duct had a build up of grease, oil etc and caught on fire when the chef were flame cooking steaks. 3 rooms above set on fire and the whole of the hotel suffered smoke damage.
