....AWG? Metric? Imperial

For what type of application? All cable installed now in the UK is metric. There are still though a lot of imperial size cables used though in older working installations. I would imagine there are very few AWG cables used here

It is like asking what is the most common length of nail we use or screw.

Have a look on Google for American Wire Gauge.

I’ll be honest it’s a system that makes no sense to me. It just isn’t logical, but there again I was brought up with 19/.044’s which is equally obscure when it come to a conductors CSA.
 
I don't know, but it seems many signal system cables seem to be sized in the AWG system...

But for general building wires, cables and flexes, AWG is now ONLY used in the States, even Canada is now all Metric....
 
The only time I come across AWG wiring is if we make a one-off component like a choke or a transformer. As far as I know all building installation and panel wiring is metric sizes.
