What would be your method? New lighting circuit

Evening,

I am rewiring my house and would like to put spotlights (around 10) in my kitchen. I was thinking loop in at the switch (from previous rose and to rose in next room) and then run the t&e cable (l,n & cpc) from one spot to the next to the next. Is this correct?

(Usual caveat- I'm still training/learning)

Yes with spots its easier to feed the switch.

Are you sure you want all 10 lights on one switch?

I've just rewired a large cottage and have used a variety of loop in at the switch and loop in at the light - both options perfectly viable, and can be used to suit your specific needs. In your case I think loop in at the switch makes good sense.

I didn't really think about separating the lights but that's a good thought.

I knew I could link in at the switch but I wasn't sure if I could run 10 lights off in a different direction to the rest of the circuit.

As it was just a quick question to check my thinking was right I didn't think members would mind me asking. Plus it's sometimes nice to hear different opinions from experienced folk. I think I've got my answer now but I'll ask my tutor next time. Thanks

Must be a big kitchen for that amount of light have you carried out a relux calculation before your spending money? Best advice is to use good quality fittings which are correctly rated for the environment and not buy whatever is on offer at the local wholesalers.

I did a bit of research and found a couple of methods for working out the number of downlights required. Ive got 177 square foot so I'm going with 9. The two outside rows will be on one switch and the centre row on another.

Seeing as JB's is a dirty word in this industry in the 21st century. IMO I would LN down to switch position, then run out with your S/L.
