What would you put in your own house?

Hey everyone. Buying our first house, the place is in need of a bit of TLC, old rewireable fuses, original BG faceplates. I'm going to rewire the whole thing as there are some things id like to put in. so far all i can really think of adding are 5 amp sockets for table lamps, one beside each double socket so you can dim them from the main switch, also an aico fire alarm system interlinked throughout, about 5 double sockets behind the tv.
It got me thinking about what you would put in your house gadget wise?

thanks Andy. like the look of the icage, you and someone else on the thread recommended them. now trying to think what colour lamp, like the idea of the daylight lamps but not sure if this would be strange at night, will see if i can nip into yesss tomorrow and set a few up for us.
That all in one fitting looks the dogs though.
Will need to check the depth of the ceiling when i visit next. picking up one of the cheapo inspection cameras from aldi aswell for help rewiring the place.

Ansell icage with an led lamp would be my choice. I'm not a massive fan of sealed units.

looking on led hut at gu10's , can get 8 dimmable led's for £50 bringing each downlight all in to about £15 inc VAT. doing all this is doing my head in. Don't know how you guys run your businesses and do this all day long!

Why not? LED lamps are a new technology squeezed into a housing and shape designed for an old technology, it will never be as good as a light fitting which has been designed specifically for an LED source.

I personally use 5500-6500K I find anything else...yellow...current favourites are the following

register as trade and its cheaper. ive got warm wight in my bedroom+bathrooms and cool white in the kitchen.

daylight might be good but i havent used any.

the walls all looked yellow after going for coolwhite from halogen (new build and its cheap **** paint)

Correctly spaced/positioned I think they are much of a muchness IMO and Lamps can be replaced for as little as £3. There is going to be pros and cons either way but i tend to sway towards led lamps over sealed units.

im the same, in 10-15 years when you need to replace the sealed units you will be lucky to swap it without damaging the ceiling or getting the same size

Or if one goes wrong and then manufacturer doesn't make them anymore and you have to swap out all of them or have one odd one!

That's going to be the same for both GU10 Lamps and Sealed units though, although a lamp change could be less noticeable.

It's a lot less hassle to change 8 lamps & you don't need a spark to do it....!

Think only time will tell with this one. JCC and others offer 10 year warranty, and I've only had one go wrong yet, a few weeks after it was fitted. After ten years, the customer will have likely decided on changing their lighting design anyway, who knows whats going to be round by then! I have both types in my house, with the LED GU10's being the oldest. Bought some of them over 6 years ago. Still going strong, but being a bit old technology wise, their lumen output is a bit poor, but I'm not replacing them till they go! I give my customers the two options, and most go for the sealed fittings; they like the idea of fit and forget, unless they all start packing up after 5years or the company goes Pete Tong.

trying to work out how many lights i'll need in each room of the house. ive downloaded dialux but cant find any data on the lamps so cant genereate a model. anyone have a file or point me int he right direction?

Schneider, clipsal or hager for accessories for me

sockets with USB power beside beds and behind TV for charging devices and powering stuff like chrome cast without messy looking wall warts.

seriously think about dropping neutrals to all light switch locations as the decent two way feedback automation systems like fibaro need a neutral.

Run cat 5 cable to high probability locations for network connections - behind TV, study, kitchen etc - yes wireless could be used but with the IoT future we are being promised the radio spectrum is going to get ever more congested so the more you can do with wires the better.
