being a sparky since 1980, and always busy [a bit quiet now that's why i joined this forum] been reading some of the posts in the work wanted and inspection/testing forums...i am shocked at whats going on in our industry, and cant believe what i am reading!
you have some postings in the work wanted section, saying they are fully qualified electricians who have never turned a screwdriver...one done a home correspondence course! how can they call them self an electrician? its unbelievable. made me laugh with one posting, could not even spell electrician!
on the other forums, some of the questions from "qualified" electricians fall into the bleeding obvious category, and if they were proper electricians would not need asking. its all very depressing, and makes me bloody angry that I have to bother with all this part P crap and pay my dues to the NICEIC in order to keep doing the domestic stuff when i know that what i do is correct and to the regs, yet at the same time you have qualified "electricians" who should never be allowed out on there own to carry out work.

can't believe he's fitted a 16th compliant CU and can't find fault. no worries about shared N's, crossed N bar connections. not difficult to connect each circuit one at a time to track down the problem.

Successive governments trying to manipulate the jobless figures adds to the 5 week wonder problem. If you're incapable of finishing school or getting a job we'll make you a sparkie, there's a massive shortage of them!

The colleges can't boot them off if they're useless because they have retention metrics that affect their funding. So you end up with fully qualified incapable sparkies.

Yes I agree with you mate. I thought it was a wind-up, until he argued his case (laughably), then I realised he was deadly (not literally I hope for his relatives sake) serious.

Correspondence Electricians! ... The ultimate training safety measure, even the H&S Nazis wouldn't have dreamed that one up ... still they will have learnt all the skills required for the perfect Drive-By 'test and inspection', which is about all they will be capable of ... Theoretical Physicists are one thing, but Theoretical Electricians that's no more than an oxymoron.

I really feel some (not all) of these new ''got my bits of paper now where's my terminal screwdriver'' aren't skilled enough in fault finding or installation. To be able to go out their front door thinking they are an electrician is a complete joke, and on top of that they are being paid to do it by the public. Some questions on here that i've seen from new sparks are just unbelievable, but had they not asked they'd still be doing the job that they are unsure of!!!!. I really feel they are more of a danger to the public and the trade than a DIYer who is interested in sorting his own small electric jobs himself.

And who are deeming these people as competent, none other than the same people that went in front of this ''All Party'' Part Pee review committee and waffled on about the need for ''SAFETY'!!
in the domestic sector and not lowering standards..... Huh!!! Can't get much lower than 17 days training can you. ....It's just an absolute disgrace, Full Stop!!!
