British Gas are recruiting qualified electricians right now a they continue to expand into the electrical market.

Can anyone give the true low down on what its like working for them? Not just rumours but the real facts?

They are paying £29,500 + benefits. (40 hour week) Plus bonus of £6000.

What sort of targets do you have to hit each day? What happens if you don't achieve targets? (i.e. a fault takes several hours to fix)

What are all the POOL hours about? (200 hours a year?)

HEARD things tough and some sparks run ragged over large area? I have to be home to children promptly....what happens if you don't compete all jobs in a day?

All feedback welcome?

Not sure yet. Awaiting answers to some questions and to see a contract! Not interested in a sales job though...
What are your views on BG then Murdoch?

To be honest I think they are a typical big company, "abusing" the work force, off shoring call centres and paying the bosses too much.

I advise clients to avoid BG when it comes to Sparking!

Lester Lecky,

Sorry mate, I have just seen your PM to me. I haven't logged in here for a while, if you need any advice I have given you my email address to contact me. To sum this question up, I honestly thought my job at BG was going to be a job for life, sadly this wasn't the case, far from it.

I'm happy to help and share my experience/views on working for BG Tony, if it helps anyone in anyway it can only be a good thing. Above my views though, and regardless of what anyone else might say it's always worth a shot (you've got nothing to lose). I can certainly tell anyone that I waited for a very long time before I even got any interviews (job in area), then when I was selected I thought I was made. Don't get me wrong I could still be there now if I decided to do so, I done very well there and was also working as a patch mentor for our trainees coming through, as well as this duty I was also selected to carry out the PV installations for BG covering a huge area on my own (when BG first started doing PV), these also ran along side my normal job for BG. After several years there and the latter 1.5yrs I put a lot of thought into whether my future lay at BG or not, there are lots of reason that put this into doubt and also whether these "things" were there to last or whether they would improve. It was not a light decision, but in the end my decision was made as the job was not what it started out as, and I wasn't going to be taken advantage of anymore. The final kick in the teeth was when the financial side of things changed, changed for the worse. Fortunately for me by this time I had already had 2 good job offers and 1 or 2 more in the pipeline. Now, a few years on i can safely say it was the right decision that I made.

There is a thread here about a similar subject with my input in there, during my time at BG too (some of it).
