My college tutor told me this one. Tutor goes to a job where customer says sockets not working. Tutor opens up sockets in the room finding no wires in them whatsoever. Tutor asks customer who did the wiring. Customer says he put the sockets up. He actually believed the sockets would just work without wires. lol

I had one with the main incoming service head was wired back to front P in N and N in P, i was trying to perform a dead test, and noticed all light fittings had black burn marks around them, got the old fluke 1000 voltage tester out all was ok, as the switches were in the of position, then testded P to E all good then N to E and Bingo 230v, looked in db all looked good Main switch was still on all brakers off meter tails all good, i (didnt) remove the main fuse and bingo still live, man did somone get a king . the thing is that it was only tested about 3 month before, and certed, and the local lec should of tested it before.

Had this at a firm I used to work for. Women in the office who you rang to order stuff off got a foreman to have a look at her new sockets that didnt work, yep no cables he asked what she thought we did with all the cable we order off her every week. He said she just gave me a daft look, I didnt think people could be that thick.

Just been to do a PIR today, shed supply 10m from house. 2.5mm T&E off the back of a socket, into blue water pipe for a bit of protection. In the shed, the cable feeds into the LOAD side of a FCU, which supplies the lights from the supply side. 2.5 looped out of the load to feed 6 double sockets.............

bumped into a guy from different department of firm yesterday he had photos on his phone of a job he was asked to go PIR ta shed before energising for new tenant the shed was annex to large disused old factory unit he went in to the factory unit first to see what he was dealing with only to find large MCCB panel stripped right back to the incomming main switch not a bit of copper left all swas and DBs Bussbars ect ect ALL stripped even the wire of armours and pvc sheathing lying on the floor must have taken ages to strip the pictures were ace with Id got them

On an old flat last year. Some moron installed a new ring curcuit to the kitchen but as there was no room in the cu just stuck one leg of the ring into the cooker mcb and the other leg into the existing ring mcb. Nice!

I've got one that doesn't beat that but comes close...

Trying to rod through some 2.5 under floorboards in lounge from one socket position to another. There was a tight angled gap to get around and customer (who was a carpenter/builder) was helping me at the other end. It wouldn't go so I decided that we would try and get it through the gap from his end. As I began pulling back and passed him the rods with the cable attached over to him he came out with this gem: "But will the electricity still flow if the cable is the other way around?"....!!! I was in tears of laughter as you can imagine.

hi all
few years back i carried out a mains change, unplugged everything to carry out ir tests...... after re energising i asked the customer to plug everything back in and heard a massive cry, he had grabbed hold of a plug top saying he had a shock off it i then followed the flex to a jb in the attic and found out it was connected to the heating controls which was fed off another circuit and that he turns that socket on when he wants to boost the heating....... unbeleavable!

3 pin plug on T/E followed the 10 meters + length into shed & found another 3 pin plug terminated onto theT/E.
It was used by home owner to supply power to 4 double sockets & lights in the shed.
