Alright , on my quest to learn the trade , I have a question?

when making off glands , would you ....

A. Use adjustable spammers or a talon wrench to NOT scratch the gland

or

B. use grips and not be too bothered about scratching if it slips ?

The reason I ask is because I was taught to do it with adjustable a and not scratch it , but then a lot off people tell me not to be soft and just use grips and don't worry about scratching ?

So what's your opinion ?
 
I know what you are saying but if given the choice between spanners or grips I will always use spanners. Plus with spanners there is less chance of tool slipping off gland whilst tightening. Suppose it's just down to standard of workmanship. A pet hate of mine is when people use a screwdriver that is too small for 3.5mm socket screws and the screws end up looking chewed up.
