Before and after...

i waved my magic wand!

What you can't see Biff is all the lead sheaths are linked together with large stranded unsheathed cable that goes to a large stud on the panel some 10 inches below ground level. Bitch to get to. That Aluminium outgoing cable is connected to that, and so is the earth to the KMF. The lead sheaths themselves are earthed by the DNO.

Hope that clears thing up for you my Dear.

x

no it ****in well doesnt lol.
if youve rewired the cabinet i would have expected an earth block & label ( value £2 ) to facilitate future testing as per the local authority spec , especially as the existing stud is in an inaccessable place.
and the door will require earthing seperately in 6mm tri-rate.

hope that sets things straight x.

Well Well,

I fail to see what an earth block really achieves seeing as all the cable sheaths have an earth sweated on to the sheaths of the incoming and outgoing cables.

The earth stud is not inaccessible, it's just a bit awkward, but not so much so that it prevented me taking the nut off and running a 10mm from it up to the KMF then cleaning up the connection and adding some copper grease on the stud before tightening it all up again.

How would a separate earth block facilitate testing here as disconnecting the earth from the outgoing cables (to test Ze I presume you are alluding to) is not possible.

I suppose I could have run an earth to the door, but it's earthed through the hinge as a Z test confirmed.

We all know that the enclosure could do with being replaced, but that is beyond my remit. I can advise them, but they won't do anything about it.

Thanks for this, I found it really interesting. Very neat work as well. I would class myself as being able to dress fairly neatly, but I see some of the installs others do and realise there is so much to learn! I rewired a 60's build flat last year and the workmanship was amazing, it felt like I was committing criminal damage removing it lol.
