When is an extension lead not an extension lead

I have a 4 gang 13A socket assembly on the end of a roof mounted pull down spring tensioned cable reeler. The reeler is connected via a local DP switched connection unit to a distribution board. Does this set up constitute an extension lead. Reason for question is that MoD regs ban the use of extension leads but I don't think this is an extension lead due to the fact that it does not have a 13A plug.

Not sure about this but i would class it as an extension lead, you dont say if your dp connection unit is fused? if its not then fuse/mcb at DB would need to be rated to suit the flex on reel, again i am sure it would be classed as an extension,it is fixed due to dp connection unit but the the socket on the end is portable and can be moved around, maybe some on else may have done the same the nearest thing i have fitted is reels on the ceiling of fire stations for connection to appliances to supply battery charger and oil heaters these were connected via rcd fused spur units.

I wouldn't say it was an extension lead because it is not extending the circuit, it is the circuit.

As long as it is fit for purpose it's not a problem.
