Discuss Where can I get one of these in the UK? in the Australia area at ElectriciansForums.net

Its only like what i would say is called a domestic FIREMANS switch with built in rcd I've seen them instaled next to the doors in hotel bedrooms , they sell them here in Spain silly Q what you want one for?

Need to replace one on a property in Portugal, it's not a build in RCD but built in over current protection, selectable between 15amp 25amp and 30amp.
I wanted to replace like for like just the next rating up up 30amp 45amp etc. Just in case anybody looks at the installation it will all look identical blah blah blah lol

They currently have one that trips every time you use the oven and hob and kettle together lol

Ok m8 why not buy one in Portugal CEF, You have the basic model there the next one does have the RCB in it here its known as a ICP interuptor control de potencia if you look at the electric bill and look at the contraced amount of Electricity then go of the tables below, Many hotels use them here in spain to stop guests pluging in 3kw fast boil kettles, welders etc (lol)
contracted Supply 3.3kw set unit to 15A 4.4kw =20A 5.5kw=25A 9.9kw 45A you really need to set it to the correct amount here in Spain (normally similar laws to Portugal) if you set it above you get fine plus your contacted price per KWH put up to the 20,000 KW price for 12 months ouch!

Sorry m8 forgot to mention is it single or three phase model? if its the three phase one calcs are different Example 9.9kw contracted means 15A setting ie 15A per phase btw when you connect from the unit to the Dist box use German type furrels on cables and min 10mm cable its now a European Req (Outside the UK of course) hope this helps

I have heard this about the contracted amount, I was going to increase the tariff from EDP.
They had a spark out who simply bridged the back of the switch, which now means no over-current protection any more, DNO fuse is 60amp and he has bridged it with some 6mm cable.
This all equals one big fire hazard IMO so I was going to put it right, I am thinking of just putting it back to 30amp to be honest and telling them not to boil the kettle and watch the TV whilst cooking lol

Cheers for the help what part of Spain are you in?

Oh yea and he did it all live with a smoke in his mouth lmao

Alicante Area .....Checked today CEF do has branches in Potugal ....good luck

Hi.

This is the main RCD trip supplied by EDP. The box opens up and the amps can be moved for more or less. It is tagged and should only be done by EDP. Usually the maximum is 30amps. If you want it changed a reqest has to be put in to EDP. They are quite quick to come out and although they don't charge for that, your standing charge will be increased.

It generally trips out on overload and there should be a 30mA RCD trip as well.

Hope that helps.

As albdore says, the EDP will change your contracted supply to a max of 30amp 3 phase but will charge an extra standing charge. DO NOT CHANGE IT YOURSELF!!!!!!
It will have a built in RCD but it's only 500mA so normally there should be a 30mA RCD in the main fuseboard as well.
The unit will allow a max of 30A per phase so normally a bit of phase balancing can help sort out overcurrent tripping problems. It's rare that the full 90amps is being used but quite common that theres lots of heavy useage sockets all on one phase so splitting them out can normally fix it.

Hope that helps
