Hi All,

I've just passed my level 2 diploma in electrical installation and either go back to college to do my level 3 or hopefully get an apprenticeship by the end of the summer. what i want to ask is, say if i don't get an apprenticeship by the end of the summer and do level 3 what journey do i take after?

Thanks

Phil

The level 2 diploma is not the nvq it's the technical cert side of it which can be fully done in a classroom so if I was you if you don't find an apprenicship go back to college and do you level 3 and then find a job as a mate/improver and complete your nvq 3 that's the way I would do it if you don't end up getting an apprenticship.

It all depends mate but to be honest a year onsite is not really enough to go at it on your own, an apprenticship is the best way but I didn't go the apprenticship way I went to college and worked as a mate for the 4 years at college and passed it that way. There is people on the site I am on with no quals and don't really know what they are doing and they are mates. I would say do your third year then sign into your nvq3 and get a job as a mate on site and just work from there to complete it and then after you get your gold card do what you think is best.

Okay thanks pal that's made it a lot more clearer. Does anyone on here know the best place to find a apprenticeship in the Uckfield, East Sussex area? I'm willing to work for free just want the experience really but i haven't started driving yet. I've emailed like ten electricians from my area but haven't had any replies!

Bit of advice mate don't ask to work free from my experience sparks don't like it lol, the way I would go is to just send a email off to every sparky company within your area might be a few hundred but play the odds the more you get your cv out there the more chance you will have of some one saying yeah. Just tell them what you are doing and where you wanna be and just try and sell your self don't say you will work for free just don't mention wages till they do. It is do able mate just spend a few hours on it and you will be surprised what you can get. Good luck mate.

Hi again,

Just got an email through this afternoon from an electrician in my area telling me he is interested in taking on an apprentice! Thing is he wants me to ring him tomorrow afternoon and talk about it further and im not sure about the process. was talking to a friend from college that got an apprenticeship and he was saying getting signed up to JTL and doing various other tests like the eye colour test. Does anyone know how i go about doing these test and how i can get started as fast as possible?

Thanks for any help in advance!
