I have been working as a trainee electrician/labourer for a few years now. Mostly heavy industry work.

I have my
2330 level two
2365 level three
17th edition
Both Pat testing qualifications
And recently past the 2394 and 2395 test and inspect.

I am enrolled on the 2357 nvq but haven't really done anything on it.

My question is: am I considered a competent person? Am I considered an electrician?
Is the nvq solely to satisfy the jib? Or is it something widely considered as relevant?

Thank you

Not until you've done domestic . lump hammer and bolster on hard brick walls with the lumps on your hand to prove it , and drank rancid tea made by some old dear , and rolled in fibreglass in a loft , and the best bit work in a house thats packed to the rafters , You will love it .....

The JIB will grade you as an Electrical improver or labourer
without the NVQ
I believe.

no..as o know JIB grade him as approved electrician since he passed inspection and testing..NVQ its plus..

peter m as i know since you past 2330 level 3 and 17th edition you are considered qualified electrician..every course you did after that its plus for you but base qualification its 2330 L3 and 17th edition..

You are a qualified electrician in my book, and don't let anyone tell you any different!!

The NVQ 3 as far as i'm concerned, is for those that have had very little experience of working on a variety of different electrical installations. Working in the heavy industrial sector, i would expect you to of had a well rounded experience, and not just the usual T&E and SWA type installations that seems to be the norm these days....

ive had rank tea before, swiftly goes down the drain or the nearest plantpot lol

the thing with the nvq though is you are supposed to do a lot of the things on it and its supposed to prove you have down it but a lot are made up

Thanks for the replies, it's not particularly that I want to work for myself however I'm only on ÂŁ10 per hour as a subby and it's starting to get a little long in the tooth.

I'm not kidding myself, I know I have a lot to learn still, particularly within the industry I work in. Programming and panel building and such.

I would like to do more education, maybe in design or some kind of degree but on these wages, it's not going to happen.

Getting ahead in this game seems to be very hard to do.

Ha Ha , Reminds me of a time when I got seen by the customer throwing the tea out of the cup in a back garden , she didn't like me after that..
