thanks

Re: Where to put main protective bonding conductor if no water mains isolation in hou

where the water pipe comes into the property, above the floor, accessible position, get the plumber to fit a stop tap. this will a. give you a point to bond to. b. give you an accessible means of turning off the water supply incase of a leak, save going outside in the dark to isolate the water.

Re: Where to put main protective bonding conductor if no water mains isolation in hou

The whole point of keeping the bond connection as close to the entry of the building as possible is because of future alterations to the pipe work. If you bond the pipe work at 'entry' to the building then no matter what alterations are made then the pipe work will still be bonded. Bond it elsewhere then alterations in the pipe work may well disconnect the earth bond.

Hope Rocker and Spin are still giggling.

......... and fit a drain cock immediately after the stop cock, then fit your bonding just after the drain cock.

Hi Chaps
I've spent a lot of time searching for clamps behind cupboards etc! Here's my 2 pennies worth:
I would put main bonding somewhere accessible (for inspection), as near as possible to where the metal pipework enters the house.
OSG states: Gas-within 600mm of the service meter on the consumers side and the Elecs Guide to Build Regs says: Water- within 600mm on the consumer's side of stopcock or insulating insert (Chapter 3.3). In cases of plastic/copper water pipes or no stop cock I would say bond the copper in an accessible place, as close as possible to where it starts.
There is some great stuff on inspection & testing and bonding at online learning website for electricians.
It'll also be very useful for the amendment 1 updates. A year's subs will cost about the same as a couple of books. More info and a discount from this link- Electrical Online Training for Electricians. Good luck.

Thing the property i saw had a about 200mm of leading into the house under floor and had no stop tap, they fitted on now but under the floor. from there on its plastic all the way, there No visible pipes there were some copper in ceiling now boarded over.....SO i really cant see what you would do apart from bond the only bit i see under the floor while i can....Gas is all sorted and ok ....was just water ....

I think you're right Robinson. You can only do what is humanly possible and bond what you can find . It's not easy being an electrician !

I should have said 'It's great to be an electrician - but it's not easy' !

No. Learning Lounge isn't my baby but I wish it was. I get lots of emails and questions on my blog from readers wanting info about courses and training (and jobs). So far all I could do was refer them to training videos on You Tube etc. but learning Lounge seems to be the real deal and it's low cost.

I signed up last week and now can get a small discount for readers who sign up thru my Electrician's Blog. I don't want to go on about it too much but I'm all about making life easier for electricians and I think this is the way to go.

Yeah i've always been told within 600mm of entry into the building. So their doesnt have to be an isolation valve just within 600 mm of incoming point to building.

Yep, and accessible (see post #4 by Murdoch) to make life easier for other electricians in the future.
