Hello folks

I imagine this sort of thread has been done over and over again in the past but your patience would be greatly appreciated as I am completely and utterly lost and bemused.

Basically I'm 30 years old, living in Birmingham and lost my job yesterday and have decided its time for a new start. I've been looking at doing some electrical training for quite some time now and current circumstance gives me the opportunity to do that. Problem is I'm having trouble trying to find out where to start from.

There is a multitude of courses and a whole lot of information but nothing that says to me definitively that this is the place to start for a complete novice. What I'm looking for is a course that will provide me the fundermental knowledge needed plus the opportunity to do a fair amount of hands on practical work in order to get me on my way.

Believe me I'm under no illusion that it will happen over night and am prepared for for a long hard slog at it and am aware that its going to take doing much more than just the one course.

So any advice? Really trying to make something positive out of this crap situation and any help you could give me would be massively appreciated.

GO!!!!

First off, sorry to hear about your bad news.

Have a search around the forum using the search box at the top right.

There are numerous threads about adult training.

It is by no means a get rich quick scheme which so training providers will have you believe while they lighten your wallet.

I took the route L2/3 2330 = 3 years evenings , 17th edition = 1 week, NVQ l3 = not quite finished but about 6 months total to finish, as for hands on you've just gotta get out there and beg a bit of experience of someone - (the hard bit).
Good look anyhow

cheers thus far chaps

I'm obviously looking at the 2357 course but cant find one starting prior to september, is there anything I could be doing in the mean time (apart from trying to get some relevent experience)? would it be worth trying to get on to a 17th edition coures, or would that be a case of running before I could walk? Would a basic construction skills course be an idea?

I started with 16th ed and ECS card, got me on site.

Get pumped after a week quite a few times for not knowing something.

Found out the answers looked for another start, not so easy now as things are a lot slower.

Kept working when others stopped for a yap.
