of course you got circles. it's the way a drill works. the chuck goes round in circles. ( unless it's power devil, then it's triangles.)

course
reuleaux triangle drillbit XD i only know about it thanks to qi

a drill bit in a round chuck drills a square hole

Was just about to post a new thread but will hijack this one instead sort of.

I'm goin to purchase, most likely a makita , 18v set. However should I go brushless. Have heard conflicting stories.

Was thinking of getting 18v combi, in pact driver and sds. Also which models would you recommend? A guy I know struggles with a makita when drilling 3 inch holes in boards. Told me to go for the next size up

the 481 has over 100nm torque, i drilled some 110mm holes in a steel 50 cal ammo box and it didnt have a problem at all. (the steel is very thick)

the stubby sds 243 is good.

if your after a drill and impact driver have a lool at DLX2040TJ.

there both good and it ranges from 300-400 depending on if you choose 3 or 5ah batteries etc

The above kit looks great but isn't brushless. It is the 458 combi and BTD146 impact. Or do I go brushless for similar price but no torch or grinder ? I am definetly purchasing the DHR242z SDS to go with whichever kit I buy.

its upto you, the 458 is a good drill. the brushes lasted me less than a year. (ÂŁ6-10 for brushes and holder if you need it)

there easy to repair, i went brushless this time but it is nearly double the body only price

Thanks for your advice mate. Do you find the brushless performance better?

Got the bhp481 and dtd145 kit today. 2 5ah and 1 4ah batteries included. Seems a bit heavy was goin to go for the dhp480 but it obky had 58nm torque. I will hopefully apreciate the power when I have tons of boards and joists to bust through

im not joking but use two hands, one on the handle and the other on the drill.

when it snags in the low gear it can kick like a mule.

i drilled a couple 110mm holes in an army ammo box and the holesaw was shagged after but the drill was perfect and didnt snag once. (the steel is a lot thicker than i expected)

just to show this is what i drilled

[ElectriciansForums.net] which 18v cordless drill/driver.. ??

Bloody hell. I've a feeling it could be alot more powerful than I need lol. But the next brushless one down seems crap in comparison
dont trust makita's numbering system.

the next most powerful after the 481 is the 458.

you need to check the nm on all makita drills.

im using bl1830 (some 3ah i had from before 4ah were released) they last a long time in the drill, tbh i dont know how long it lasts but it is a very long time in comparison to the older drills

Yeah they seem to make it confusing. I've a feeling the place I bought it won't swap over so it will do. If I find it too powerful I'll just get body only 458. This 481 looks like it could be a great piece of kit to have though. Thanks for your help mate

it will be fine, it will cut out etc so its not clutchless as such.

just try to keep it on 2nd speed unless you really need the tourque though.

the biggest problem i find in 1st is trying to get the auger bits out of the wood (need to fwd/revs a few times to loosen it up)

No circles on this thread? Only a member asking for advise from other time served electricians on what tool is best? It's called conversation and helpfulness!

Think I'll take my glasses back to Spec Savers and get them re calibrated because I cant see a circle.

I was thinking more of an ellipse or parabola myself ... but I take your point ... Festool for me, the 'fringe benefits' of theft cover particularly together with a very well though out package; angle drill attachment included ... 2 tools in one ! FFX seem to have been consistently best on price whenever I have gone eShopping for over the last couple of years.

a lot of the time i dont see the point in a angle drill.

most of the time when you could have used ones its a double joist so you can drill all the way through anyway

I would say it is more about the bits than the torque of the drill. I use high quality Fisch auger bits for drilling out mortices and peg holes...
