I will be fitting 4 floods on each corner of a domestic stables. The chap has 500w floods at present and wants them changed to LED.

There seems to be a huge difference in price between LED floods. Ebay being the cheapest. Any suggestions in where to buy from at a reasonable price. I like TLC, but on this occassion they are expensive. Ebay has 50W for £35 and 70W for £70 which is very cheap but always a bit risky (very good feedback though).

Also some sites say 50W LED is equivalent to 500W, some say 350W. Also the 70W LED seems to range from 400W - 600W. Does anyone know what the actual equivalent ratings are or do they vary depending on the model of the LED flood?

Cheers chaps..

google convertabulb. they do a range of LED floods. i reckon you need 50W to be close to the output of a 500W halogen, but they can advise better than i can. i can vouch for the quality of their stuff. ( i have no connection with them, just they are local to me so i can pick up what i want as and when ).

I'd suggest a tutorial on lux, lumens and understanding photometric diagrams. There's so many considerations when trying to match light output of different lamps you need some background knowledge to make an informed decision, using rule of thumb conversions is a dangerous game. Try here for starters but I'm sure you'll find better tutorials if you search for 'lamp photometric and polar diagrams'.
