Terry you seem a very touchy Guy, may I just point out you came here asking for advice not me.
If you don't know what your doing, then put your hand in your pocket and pay for the services of an Electrician to do the job for you.

Not at all GMES, I see guys like you across the forums all the time. They just attempt to hinder rather than help.

I will repeat for you, its not me wiring or even attempting to as I wouldn't know where to begin. My dad is more than capable of doing so, I don't need to pay for someone to come out and wire it all up. I get you guys can get annoyed and don't want to give away trade secrets as its your livelihood (I used to work for Honeywell and know all to well the issues with people wanting a how to on wiring in a full alarm system for example) but all I asked for was a recommendation I didn't think it was such a big ask. If that's too much for you that's fine, you don't have to keep commenting.

I'm an accountant but I don't want to charge everytime someone asks for some 5 minute advice.

Thanks to those above who have suggested some brands I'll do some reasearch on them and make a decision from there.

no need to get a strop on. come the vote you may well be on your own anyway.

strop.....hmmm

how do you know I'm not English and have moved here?

For the record I'm voting No, I didn't expect it to go down this avenue when asking for some elec help!

But if you don't understand electrical installations then how can you make a decision on which of the brands we have suggested is best?

Is your father fully versed in the wiring regulations and industry best practice?
He will of course be providing you with an electrical installation certificate or minor works certificate in accordance with the regulations won't he?

With the greatest respect matey this is the electricians forum, for professional sparkies.... its not the DIY dummies forum.

Sure we do give limited advice, but you will feel short changed if you hoping for a shopping list and a step by step guide

Yes I get that fully mate, I'm not trying to get anything other than reccomendations on a brand that was all.

i was unable to post on the DIY section else I would have, I wasn't attending to cause offence and have the lynch mob attack

I can read reviews for a start.

you already know the answer so I guess that question was rhetorical?

The point being made by Davesparks is that unless someone is going to inspect and test this job to make sure it complies with the regulations and is safe for use.... it may well not be safe for use, and you are not to know.

A mate of mine has just taken the plunge and bought a brand new fully kitted out van for his business, he is a sole trader.

Could you please outline the most tax efficient way to claim this on his tax returns over the next few years?

Of course, but does he really need this advice or do you just want to see how I would respond?

edit: I assume your mate Mr Smith will be along shortly with a PM asking on the latest tax dodge

And what exactly does that mean!! people like me, I simply made a comment about your dad being an electrician, which he should be by the way to undertake said works, since then you have spat your dummy out, if you don;t like it then sod and find an Accountants forum,

er no. You stated you would give advice FOC and I'm assuming something like this, is like water off a ducks back to an accountant, but for people like us its a bloody nightmare.

For the record I don't need the advice, I have an accountant who I pay once per year for advice and my tax affairs.

It sounds like you just spat the dummy I can assure you I haven't.

I have acknowledged its just about a crime to ask you guys to divulge trade secrets foc, which it didn't think I was doing by asking some simple recommendations on a photocell brand. I know you don't want to divulge the info on that which is fine no need to go ott.

no need for me to go on an accountants forum, I know what I'm doing when it comes to that fortunately.

I'm trying not to go down the my dad does this route as I know it just leads to more abuse/---- taking but ok I'll bite.

My dad is a retired electrician, so yes although he can do the work he isn't up to date with latest regs or quals etc. Once the work has been carried out it will be checked over by someone who is.

I hope that's acceptable in your eyes and you can see I wasn't trying to rile you up by saying give me a diagram on how to wire x y and z etc

exactly. I knew you didn't need the advice so I didn't offer it.

What you asked wasn't a big deal and I thought asking about a photocell brand would be the same, I didn't consider that it would create offence.

You are a twxt aren't you. As I stated a friend needs he advice, not me.

If you have an accountant then surely you are well equipped to help this friend by asking him, they will give it for free since you use their services annually.

you are coming across more like a **** by the second that I'm sure of.

Edit: if you get all agitated over someone asking what photocell to go for, how can you possibly be expected to ask your accountant on his behalf.....
