hi lads just about to buy a new tester this week and cant decide which one is the meter for me ?
there are two meters that im looking at are the fluke 1652c or else the megger mft 1720.
i work in the domestic area more than anything else but always worked for a company and now im going out on my own :puke:
needcit to be simple and fast to use all and any comment are welcome.

i have the older version of the 1720 mft i think its the 1522

absolutely excellent tester! had it 7 years never fallen out of calibration, batteries last forever, never failed me, dropped it off my steps a few times too im embarrassed to admit. auto RCD testing is sooo handy too

Never liked the Meggers, seem less accurate than my ÂŁ7 multimeter from China.

Have been informed it is just that meggers come with lousy leads, but having to replace the leads after spending that much seems stupid.

megger all the way for me. spot on accurate, even on no trip loop, robust, easy to use, and it doesn't look like it was made by JCB diggers.

I was going to go for the fluke but, after using the megger for a recent I&T exam i found it sooooo easy to use and our forum sponsor hooked me up with one at a good price. For now i think i have made the right choice

The best advice anybody can give you is to try the MFTs on your short list before you buy, because most of it boils down to personal preference not which tester is best per se, what is right for you may well not be my choice. Don't believe the manufacturer's hype, they put the best possible spin on their products in order to maximise sales. Draw up a list of features you consider essential, then list features useful but not must haves, then list features you consider trivial, lastly features you definitely don't require. Be ruthless with the selections in the various categories when drawing up your short list.

I've had the metrel mi3125 for the past year and can't fault it. I used to swear by robin with d lock, only problem with robin it tripped a lot of rcbo's especially merlin gerin

got the 1553 megger. Brilliant, but also recently used the fluke, which is also good. Fluke faster on EFLI testing, and better case. Megger better after sales service. Kewtech gear looks good too. TBH they all do pretty much the same thing now, although I don't like the look of the Di-Log one.

Have a look at ISSWWW for a good price.

Megger for me, but the 15xx series. After that i'd go for the kewtech. I don't like the flukes.
As mark says. It's all down to personal choice

Fluke and Megger are both great bits of kit but my personal preference is for the Megger. One reason being on continuity and EFLI/PFC ranges instead of faffing about trying to reach a test button whilst holding leads the Megger auto tests upon making contact.

i have used a few testers in the past (all on course, for employers, or at college) and i reckon the megger 1552 is the bees knees. the auto test is very handy, and it seems to give reliable readings all the time. the fluke 165X is also good but the push button test leads are rubbish and i've had a few dodgy ones. for the past year i've been using a metrel eurotestCOMBO and it's alright for a basic mft but if you do alot of testing i wouldn't reccomend it, mainly because you need to hold it in one hand and put all 3 leads on with the other hand which can slow you down whereas the megger/fluke you can hang round your neck and use 2 hands to get the probes on. but there must be a market for these types of testers as i just saw a megger (CM500?) for sale and it's very similar to the eurotest i used to use. i've just bought myself a new 1552 and i can't wait to start testing again with it!
