Apart from the ease of use, does the megger mft1500 versions hold their values, or the Fluke 1650 versions both produces the quality its been written to have and hold its value for a long period of time? Please help me, i currently own a mft1552 which is superb, but i am looking to go for an upgrade, kind of confused whether i should purchase myself a 1653b or the mft1553? Thanks

only way i'd change my 1552 is if i had an insurance claim on it. brilliant bit of kit. stick to megger!!!

What kind of warranty did you get with your Megger 1553? My local wholesaler say that the ones bought "in shop" have 3 year warranties whereas the ones sold online only have a year.

:)

Thanks for the response guys, but i've seem to have only got Megger tester lovers. If there is any Fluke lovers, i would appreciate if you give me your opinions to what i have just enquired. I need both sides opinion so i can really brake down to whether its worth my time changing to different brands. Thanks again.

I suppose I'm old school now, and I've used my trusty telaris 0100+ MFT for at least 10 years and Robin seperates for 10 years before that. If I was buying again my wish list would include
It has to be multifunction and more.
Used standard banana plugs
Could be operated with 1 hand at the top of a ladder
Could firmly hold a probe in it's holster
Could test continuity and IR continiously without needing it's button pressed.
Had a screen that could be read in low light from any angle.
had an RCD ramp test
Continuity buzzer.
Volt stick type light in the probes
Replacement probes, leads and croc clips you didn't need to sell a kidney to be able to afford.
Could do Zs tests without a neutral on a circuit protected by an RCD
Will still work after it was dropped.
Was rain proof (swimming pool or garden pond proof would be even better)
Had a dispay that did not crack if anything pressed against in its carry box.
Had a recepticle for a pen
Had croc clips that would properly grip and hold their own weight on wire ends, pipes and earth bars.
Had croc clips that both sides of the jaw gave the same continuity measurement.
Had leads that would plug into probes and or probes that would plug into (and stay in) crock clips, 13A plug, BC holder (with earth to the cap) and ES adaptors (i.e. 1 set of leads did the lot)
Probes that could be operated in one hand like a pair of scissors.
Phase rotation test
Could hold a probe to free up your hand to use a screwdriver (like the pen holders in banks)
Had some means of holding the meter that could support it's own weight (magnetic, velcro, hook, neck-strap etc)
Had tangle resistant leads.
Had selector switches and push buttons that could be opersted with the same hand that was holding the instrument.
My wife says she will divorce me if I spend any more time on my PC on a Saturday night so I'm off to thy other life of enduring X factor, Strictly, or last night's Corrie.

I have an 'old' fluke 1651, has been and still is a great work horse, bounced off many floors, chucked in temper, never given any love, calibrated anually.... and still going strong!

When and if I kill it I am sure I will buy another one.

love your post , blue. i have a tester with all the properties you specify. it's a wet finger

 blue, i would be up for a tester like that, i reckon carlsberg should make our testers :D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUy_KPPrwt0"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUy_KPPrwt0

Lol Blue, only if you can find a product that does it all..The thing is, there is, just that these companies want to make their money first from the bottom through out the top, if you get what i'm trying to say. However after doing alot of research on the fluke 1653b, i think i may go ahead and take the risk and purchase myself one. It is the latest version from the brand in the market, and it seems like it will cover many aspects that im looking for. Not mocking off the Megger products but its good to always try new things in life. I'm hoping that the 1653b holds its value at the same time. :)Thanks again guys.

Hello again guys, I've decided that i would go with the 1653b, however i'm usually the kind of person that likes to ask questions, it makes me feel certain i've made the right decision. I need your help by going through a procedure with me of knowing how to utilise this piece of equipment. As i'm a new user to fluke, i have limited amount of knowledge of using their items, so if anyone can be helpful and explain to me how i can quickly test if the item works perfectly, how do i go about testing the item without doing any major works? Thanks again in advance.
