Now I drive a Gloria (Escort Van) that I keep trying to kill...

that must be some age...my first van was a 86 mk3 escort van 1.3 pop it was 2 yr old when i was handed the keys, plastic seats no head rests, probably the the worst van ive had but i loved it,but you always remember your first..:p

Got an 04 Vivaro. Had it from new. Never put a foot wrong until last year. Fuel pump and power steering pump went. £600 for the fuel pump, nearly £300 for the power steering pump. But apart from that, not bad at all. And to be honest, its at its max weight all the time (and quite often over its weight), doing lots and lots of stop start journeys, so for the price, its a good motor.

2001... It had an MOT a couple of months ago I was hoping it would fail so I could get a new van..... It passed 1st time

i did have to use a ldv sherpa van absolutely guttless awful worst van ever,i have to get rid of my motor and get a van myself for work so also have an interest in this thread,at present am driving a ford transit connect, nice van but too expensive for me,have to give it back so will be looking for a cheapie, best van i have ever driven was a vw transporter 2.5tdi goes like poop off a shovel.

Lenny - at last!

egginyourface - you're wrong, thats why they hold their value. Economics do not lie. Who ever told you they were trouble did.

p.s. robsparky75, yes looked at those (2.5 VW transporter) - and to cut you slack egginyourface, they were the only VW transporter that has a slight cloud over it's reliability. (specifically the engine, 5 cylinder I think, something dodgy about it).

As for the others for the past 40 years, ask anyone ..... look at the 2nd hand prices..... if you can find one ....... :p:p:p:p:p:p:p

had trannys in the past does what it says on the box ( cept the 85 punny one) presently vw transporter n its ace best tho by a country mile Merc Vito full to the brim up the A90 n I had to slow down a few times looked @ speedo when a porsche behind me ddint overtake and discovered @95 it still had a wee bit left

i know someone that had 2 vw transporters in a row and he said avoid them like plague. been looking at them on autotrader,,,,they do hold there price well

had a vauxhall vivaro, bought it 2yr old with 256k on the clock trouble free until the turbo blew at 282k. then decided to chop it in for a renault master...... been a great van!

i drive a mercedes vito, and its spot on. loadsa room front and back, 75l tank with 15 in reserve. the only con is that its thirsty, but there again, we're working in the middle of nowhere, and most of the driving is country lanes, stopping and starting ect.

driven vivaros, and liked it.
driven vw caddy, and liked that too, although steering is a little too light IMO
driven relay, and its ok.
driven berlingo, and hated it
ford connect, hated, but thats cos it had wooden panneling that kept squeaking.
small astra vans are good, (ive got an astra estate at home), but theyre far too small IMO.

gota love hire motors!
