Evening all,

I was talking to a colleague today who was saying that if he couldn't get a good enough Ze reading from a TT system he would convert it to a PME. Can he do this?? Sorry again if this is a really basic question but I for some reason thought this was down to the supplier eg EDF

Cheers

Absolutely right only the Distribution Network Owner can provide a PME connection. What your colleague is suggesting is illegal and potentially dangerous.

Good point mwm.
I would usually reccommend changing from TT to PME if the DNO can provide it, finding out only takes a phone call after all. Obviously the DNO will charge to provide the connection.

Yep its down to the supplier , i would investigate why you cant get a good reading on TT maximum is 200 ohms unless you are on a very dry area or sandy change you earth method or add say a earth tape or plate try additional Rods

I'll question him further when I see him next. I may well have misinterpereted him. Thanks everyone though for confirming this for me!

are you sure he didnt say if the PME ze was not great he would put in a TT to accompany it I believe this is acceptable.

the max Ze for a TNCS installation is 0.35 if you get readings higher than that then you should contact the DNO , to investigate this as it could be a fault on the supply ,

funny you should say that ,, im sorry but if the regs say 200 then 200 it is , if the NIC want 100 then thats up to them as i work by what the regs say and not the nic ..durham im not having a go mate

You would treat it as a TT installation.
