Newbie here and have very limited knowledge of electrics but need help.

Earlier today my whole house electrics tripped as of my own stupidity. I was removing a wall heater from my bathroom when I accidently crossed wires, I forgot to isolate any electric supply so I'm counting my blessings I'm still here after having a bit of a shock lol.

Anyway that's not the problem, I got that sorted after replacing the 30A fuse wire in the RCD which had blown. All appliances are now working throughout the house except one...my bloody oven!!

I thought it might have been the fuse in the spur for it, (was a 3A so replaced like for like) but no joy. I had a pack of 5A, and 15A so tried these thinking that maybe a 3A was not sufficient for the supply to the oven but on trying each of these nothing would work.

As now its been a few hours and I'm getting a touch on the hungry side, is there anything else I can do as an amateur to get it working or does it have to be a professional if the problem lies a little deeper??

Thanks in anticipation
Paul

make a guess. the 3A fuse would be for the cooker extractor, not the cooker. 2nd guess would be that the cooker, having had it's supply interrupted, has come back on on "auto". and you will need to reset the clock and maybe something else, depending on the make and model of cooker.

Thanks for that, I've now been and checked the extractor but to no avail either. Everything is completely dead. The oven is a HOMARK something-or-other. I couldn't possibly say which model as its about 10 years old

Thats a new one on me??? I wasn't aware that RCDs had a replacable fuse wire - do yourself a favour, stop being a skin flint and consult a qualified electrician. Amateur electrics kill.

My guess is an earth to N fault in the damaged light fitting. This will become a problem when other devices draw large currents.
