Hiya

Is there anywhere online that you would recommend for using to buy materials. Im currently using CEF and Ritchies but is there any advice on better?

Depends where you're based and what sort of kit you're after really.

I use CEF & Edmundsons and dont really have any problems with either. A lot of guys dont like CEF, experiences differ all over I suppose.

RS & CPC are good for non standard kit.

CEF around my way are awful over charging, double billing and poor counter staff. Dread the times when I have to use them, though as said above areas differ so much :)

Exactly. Have had nothing but problems on the rare occasion I use them, also find them wildly expensive and have had to tell the guy at the counter off over the phone when he sold a customer of mine a '17th board' which was just an 8 way board with an RCD as an incomer. OK sure the guys there wear a nice shirt and tie and there's always someone there when you walk in (which is the ONLY complaint I have about my local guys, Total; you have at least a five minute wait before they deign you with their prescence) but at the end of the day, that isn't worth paying four times as much for something that doesn't work, as far as I'm concerned.

The counter staff problem must be common for CEF then. Thats the only reason I won't set foot in my local branch. Absolute a holes.

Manager is a top lad, but he still won't grasp why I won't use them

Screwfix are a pain, never have the stuff you want, but they will get it in 48hrs.
CEF are a waste of space, very overpriced (unless a loyal custome, with an account, even then their prices are overboard, they like 30 day invoice)
My local supplier is good on price and when they have the gear in stock i need, i always use them. Always use your local supplier, otherwise tesco will take over the world -+

I try to avoid CEF as much as possible. From my experience, they have no idea of stock, have no will to be co-operative and keep trying to push proteus towards me.

I try to stick using Electric Centre as they are much more co-operative.
WF don't stock often what I require, however they are very often the quickest to obtain stock on request.
I have no problem with edmundson, however I rarely have used them due to geographic differences. :p

I've used TLC on occasions and am very impressed with there range. Particularly things like dimmer switches and decorative sockets etc.

Hi all,

I use C.E.F and Holland house along side RS and Senate. Had stopped using C.E.F years ago due to inaccurate invoicing and pushing shoddy goods that I just did not want! But new manager in place and service has improved and invoicing accurate (so far). I find their prices comparable to local supplier (Holland House). For service though, you cannot beat RS . They are pushing more and more to try and get business, they just lack some ranges. Don't put all my eggs in one basket though and try and keep suppliers on their toes! :)
