I know there are few out now that look ok, like the nest models, but still smoke/heat/CO detectors are very unslightly. One of the biggest complaints from customers, can rouine the look of a nice kitchen. Usually don't agree with customers but they are right in this case!

Apollo have been working on a flush mounted detector for some time but who knows when it will be here and what the cost will be...It's for a part 1 system anyway.

The only way you could have a less unsightly Part 6 detector is to relocate its inner parts, which reduces its size to a control panel and then you have the makings of a Part 1 system. Agree with Murdoch the Aico ones aren't too bad.

Does make me chuckle, these finicky customers. They stick their noses up at a simple heat detector, spoiling the clean lines of their kitchen ceiling populated with fancy down lights.

But they get all excited about the same size head, that they can access via an app on their iPhone whilst out at the pub on a Saturday night.

Was on this forum, where a bloke had installed an 'intelligent' system, or whatever you call it, 'Elecsa, turn on the table lamp, Elecsa, dim the main light'. For frigs sake, get off your arse and turn on the damn thing yourself!

The Apollo Plate detectors where one of the first flush mounted smoke sensors, but were disscontinued 3 years ago, due to not meeting regs....Quite often architects request no surface smoke detectors on ceiling and voids, As this requires service hatches and is unsightly. So air sampling is used to detect smoke detection, small flush sampling plates measuring an inch are place through the ceiling, and are connected to the sample pipe via a small tube. System has a faster response then optical smokes, but is expensive....have only once been ask to install in a domestic dwelling, but customer was very happy with result.

Vesda ?

Lots of Medium / high end houses are now having VESDA air sampling systems as its nearly an invisible system and 5 x better than conventional detection. However still need a conventional hear detector for kitchen and utility rooms. If the client can afford it worth considering.

Thats the beauty of air sampling, it can be programmed for any environment and many sensory levels, bus garages with diesel fumes, swimming pools with high humidity, dust free computer rooms, and even saw mills with high saw dust content.
