Why do people do it?

Why do some people have such a poor standard of work and get away with it. The cowboys have been getting away with it for years and will always get away with it until someone gets plated or dies because of them. There is no policing of our trade, any action taken against anyone is always retrospective it hits the fan.
It doesn't help that some of the fines dished out to companies after one of there workers has died are very low and are not a deterent to most companies.
What you need is for the Contracts Directer or someone else high up go to jail and only then will something change.
It doesn't help that kitchen fitters are able to do the electrics in kitchens now an be able to provide a certificate for the work they have done. You have to wonder how many customers will dies because of their bad workmanship and lack of experience with electrics

Really shoddy work in the tiled pictures. Looks like a 2 year old been let loose on that build the finish is terrible....that, that is finished!!!

Why do you think 'Part P' was introduced? Look it up.

Unless electricity is treated the same as gas then the whole sham is a failure.

'Part P' is here because a member of parliments daughter was unfortunate enough to get electricuted.

It was also to provide the HMRC with a traceable work history so that they can nail you for the cash jobs

Other than that Part P is a waste of time and effort for our trade I'm fed up looking at non compliant Part P jobs. If Part P was that good it would extend to all areas of electrical installation in all buildings but trying to stop the cowboy is not what it is doing

Unfortunately the pictures posted are only the tip of the iceberg and this is what you get with a lot of the cheap I can do that jobbers that are around I often wonder what their own homes are like, I always work on the principle if it ain't good enough for my home then I'm not going to do it for a customer and a lot customers say I'm to picky but I don't think thats a bad thing

Hilarious!

In reality, sometimes people are the victims of cowboys, but a lot of the time they get this shoddy work because they get a quote off of us, say that the price is ridiculous and that we are rip off merchants 'it's only a few wires', then get Terry from behind the bar, who 'used to be an electrician' to do it for a 5 pack of knock-off Golden Virginia. So sod 'em.

i only really know about domestics.

im worried that there are so many people out there who don't comment (or care) about 'Part P'.

My sons 15.........I think I might send him out to work.

"its only a loft light mate".

regulation is required.
Part P is not doing this.
We need the same scheme as gas uses.

there was a post in the 'arms' by RWJ i think it was.

it was in regard to someone on the screwfix forum.

It said something about 4mm cable and a shower. it turned out it was 2.5mm cable.

laughable.

gas-safe?

electric-safe?

Is that a nursing home? I think I've seen those pictures before, either because they've been on the forum elsewhere or because I took them for my NVQ ;)

Are those bits of wood screwed to the skirting board some kind of quick release mechanism for the trunking in case the place needs an emergency rewire?
