Why do people do it?

Why do some people have such a poor standard of work and get away with it. People get away with it because there is a large number of the general public who either wouldn't know a good job if one smacked them in the face or are willing to pay very little to get a job done, and because it cost them next to nothing poor quality seems to be ok

yep i put them on before.

skirting boards with wood are a doctors, not long built.
drain is on my estate, the entrance.
other photos are a nursing home, or was going to be.

Why do you think 'Part P' was introduced? Look it up.

Unless electricity is treated the same as gas then the whole sham is a failure.

Hmm Part "p"....

I'm doing testing on landlords' supplies in blocks of flats for a london borough, the other week I was asked to PIR a flat which was having prepayed meter fitted (the switchroom is kept secure so tennant wouldn't be able to access the meter).
The flat had been rewired a matter of weeks previously and here's a rough list of my comments on the PIR...
no rcd label
no inspection label
no harmonised wiring label (roomstat wiring was existing 3 core+earth)
missing blanks in consumer unit
absent main protective bond to water service (they had tried to piggy back from the gas bond but had used a 50mm through crimp which fell apart!!!!)
4x double sockets unspurred from ring circuit
loose connections in almost all accessories
NO MAIN EARTH CONNECTED!!!!!!!!!

I forget the rest but I truly have never seen such an awful installation, it looked like whoever did it had absolutely no idea. There was skirting trunking throughout and instead of stripping out the existing wiring and using that they ran YT2 all over the place, massive gaps at joints and bends, diagonally across ceilings to light fittings and all sorts.

This is a COUNCIL owned flat but had no completion certificate. The council employed the subbies who installed it so how does that work? A domestic customer has to pay extra for an registered sparks who will have to go through the rigmarole of notification etc but as the council own the property all that goes out the window???

I REALLY WANNA SWEAR!!!

Not sure what to say about that, but what do they expect to acheive with your PIR certification?, me thinks the Local electricity company wont supply them unless they are shown a cert, ive seen this happen a lot in London, if a tennant aint lived in a flat for about 3 month, they wont supply without certification.
what council was that.

The quick-release trunking system had me in tears. I can see where they're coming from with the shower drain as well, it's much easier for future maintenance with the drain across the middle of the bathroom floor.

It's an innovative emergency drainage system inspired by those panic bars used to open emergency fire doors (you just run at the door hitting the bar which opens it). Same in this situation - if you need the shower tray emptying in a hurry you simply step out of the shower and onto the drainage pipe, which evacuates the contents of the shower into the surrounding area (all over the floor).
If there was a power cut and all the lights went out you wouldn't even need to bother trying to find it, you'd just step out of the shower to activate it.

But come on you have got to love the kitchen sink and the pull cord in the middle of kitchen, and the light switch wire behind the door, did i say light switch, or the wire just sticking out the wall.
oh and the toilet down stairs in front of the clear window.
Not forgetting the CCU check out the brakers, this is for a 4 bed house. Do you think the person was trying to keep the brakers as near as possible to the RCD rating of 63amps. Sorry the cooker hood was just going into the ceiling under the upsatirs floor, mid terrace huse LOL.
