Why is it that there are so called sparks out there saying its illegal when it does not comply with the regs for example

a Recent customer had social services send a local electrical company to here house to carry out some work she was told it was illegal to have the light comming on with her fan as she has a window in her bathroom ,they also said it was illegal for her light switches to be at the hights they were , ad what do the do installed a down flow heater without an isolator and put the CDU so hiugh i couldnt reach it she is 89 with arthritis cant even switch a light switch on easily ,, just makes my blood boil

Err no it wouldn't, if done correctly there is no chance whatsoever. The present regs are there for cowboys or poor electricians. I do agree rcd's are beneficial in certain criteria, showers or outside perhaps, but blanket use is way over the top.
Like you have to protect with rcd/rcbo in kitchens...in fact you are just as likely to be electricuted in a bedroom, teas maid (hotels) or electric blanket etc etc. Or can an electric kettle be only used in a kitchen?

Part P is a complete joke, made only for jobs for the boys. Incidently I don't know of any 'real electricians' ending up in court for not complying. Part P is not law in the real sense, although I do know councils up and down the country will not sign off work unless certified. That does not make it illegal. However, i would concur if anything happened your case would struggle if not part p registered

What I was saying was, you may have done your additions correctly (though obviously not in this case) but if there was to be a fault that occured on existing wiring then your name would come up, and then the questions would start.
and by the way sockets in bedrooms need RCD too
