Has anyone ever been asked this question?
Why is it so expensive?
And, what was your answer?
(I'm a newbie and needed to do a post)
*lights a fire and walks away......

I just tell em its cos lifes a bitch and everyones out to ***k you these days so Im taking a 'if you cant beat em, join em' attitude Then I ask them to bend over whilst I break out the lube

Lol, if you've ever got the bullocks to say that to a client then please record. That made me almost spit my brew out.

Do you get alot of sex-dungeon re-wires lol?

A Woman asked me how much extra sockets would cost in her new conservatory , I said ÂŁ50 each point , her words are ....That's Horendous ..... I said .... I have to pay for materials and earn a living .....she said .... I will get my son to do it ........I said go ahead then ....and walked out...... If the womans attitude was o/k I would have done it cheaper , but with attitudes like that ,what do some people expect, and that was a neighbour!!!![/QUOTE]
the last customers you need these are...
one of my neighbours wanted an ECR carrying out at her house this one time...so i gave her a reasonable price.....thats when she said `oh, well i thought you`d just do it for some experience`....told her i didn`t need the experience and left her to it.
jesus...

Pretty much like an old engineering manager I had once... When I asked him why us electricians were only on a pound an hour more than the machine operators, his reply was "well, you have job satisfaction, and that's worth a lot..."

And relax everyone.....
I like to point out the training ive gone through, the costs of tools, van, materials, testers, subscriptions, relevant literature, fuel. Have I missed anything?
Just the cost of a safe electrical system in the home.
Rant over. Will be in touch again soon!

Advertising, updating your technical library, down time doing quotes and admin, PPE, certificate software....

About ÂŁ6K per year.

OK but when your house burns down and the insurance company will not pay out don't come running to me

This year alone I have jst bought a BGB, COP4, GN3 in total ÂŁ150 so even if I did an EICR for these clowns for the same money I would have earned zilch plus when is the last time a Joiner,Roofer,Landscape guy had to buy new regs or cops or had to get their tools calibrated or dare I say it pay for a scheme membership thats not worth the paper its written on

"Why is it so expensive?!?" Mrs Jones asked me.

"Because I love mugging off old coffin dodgers like YOU!" I said. "If I wasn't dressed as an electrician, I'd be on your doorstep dressed as a gavver while me' mates are rummaging through your jewellry collection upstairs. Now bend over and take the shafting!"

so your supposed to be some kind of `slave to the name` then...LOL....

Electricians have an interesting and fulfilling job, whereas the operators have a boring one, so therefore electricians should be happy that they get even a small amount more than the operators. That was his explanation anyway.
A few weeks after he said that, I landed a job on double the salary so it was a moot point :)

yeah...well when i worked as a plater/welder i was getting fed up with it at the end...thats when i decided to retrain...and so took myself to college to learn as best i can about sparkying (i still have a long way to go)..lol.. but i could see that heavy industrys the likes of which i was doing (plater welder) was going....so....
still, i wouldn`t mind a bit of a workshop for my own use....
everything in good time eh....

I had an Asian guy ring me a couple of months ago, 3 storey 4 bed house riddled with faults. Quoted him ÂŁ3k, he nearly choked on his coffee and got a well known local cowboy to install a new CU for ÂŁ200. No testing no certs, all the usual bodgit and scarper techniques. I'd absolutely love to know how he got the RCDs to hold but I'll never ever ask about it.
