I turned up to this job just before Xmas.
I was called out to help this lady who had tried to unscrew a G9 bulb and broke it off in the fitting.
While working on the fitting at the bottom of this image I noticed the cpc sticking out of a junction box so had a look and this is what I found.

To top it off while packing some tools away in the hall I see a socket with writing on "NO EARTH TAKE CARE".

Isolated these parts until I can get back but brings into question all the circuits. Would of been a call-out but now its I got to go back and put it all right.

What do you guys think??????

Without looking into the history of the invention,I would put my bet on Tesla invented it and Edison got the glory

It seems I lose my bet on Tesla, but was right about the thief known as Edison

In 1840, British astronomer and chemist, Warren de la Rue, enclosed a platinum coil in a vacuum tube and passed an electric current through it, thus creating the world's first light bulb – a full 40 years before Edison was issued a patent for creating it.

A bloke called Joseph Swan had something to do with it as well.

shocking display of electrical terms how long have we been planting light bulbs (correct termonology please) originator needs advising
Nobody said anything about 'planting' anything. Why would you plant a light bulb? That would just be silly.
How many times have you gone to a customer's house and have them thinking you were going to fix the lights by digging up the garden? Mention 'light bulbs' and they'll know what you're talking about; start talking about 'lamps' and they'll think you're talking about the table lamps.

It seems you know your local history Geordie

I just read this bit of info

Sir Joseph Wilson Swan (31 October 1828 – 27 May 1914) was a British physicist and chemist.
He is most famous for inventing an
incandescent light bulb before its independent invention by the American Thomas Edison

Swan first demonstrated the light bulb at a lecture in Newcastle upon Tyne on 18 December 1878, but he did not receive a patent until 27 November 1880 (patent No. 4933) after improvement to the original lamp.
His house (in
Gateshead, England) was the first in the world lit by a lightbulb,

If we were to forget the thief Edison Joseph .Swann by virtue of having the first house lit by lightbulb (anti bulb posters please note the terminology)he gets my vote for the invention
So it's hats off to the geordies for the invention of the LightBulb

Does Gateshead qualify as Geordie ?
I'm not sure myself, because it seems you are a protective lot up there, especially when the town is the wrong side of the Tyne

We have a few firsts up here in Geordieland, for example Mosely Street was the first street in the world to have electric lighting, Cragside which was Lord Armstrong's home, the first place ever to be lit using hydro electricity.
More useless facts brought to you by the Tyneside contingent

is gateshead a place or an area
It's a town on the south side of the Tyne mate. For some reason which baffles me the area now appears to be called Newcastle Gateshead. Ridiculous.

Edit

Just as an aside Charles Dickens described it as the dirty back lane which leads to Newcastle. Poncey art critic Brian Sewell said that the town should be bombed.

Oh I know my local history - just ask Tidy Boiler.

I'm a Gateshead lad born (in the Queen Elizabeth hospital) and bred and consider myself to be a Geordie and I'm VERY proud of my Geordie Heritage and all that we in Geordieland gave to the world - and had stolen from us in some cases.

Have a looksee at C A Parsons sometime who wasn't a Geordie (he was an Irishman) but see what he achieved here in Geordieland. Then there's W G Armstrong - of the Armstrong Works fame and his little country cottage "Cragside" ;)

part p is mostly relevant to the suited fat cats who are making money from it. by forcing up prices to cover costs of membership, etc., it's driving joe public into the arms of the cowboys who do it for half the cost. exactly the opposite of what it was meant to do. just like prohibition in america in the 20's.
