Have run winters for 5 years, prior to that i used chains on summer tyres. Basically i cannot get off my drive if there is even an inch of snow. I have 4 new Michelin Alpin waiting for the bad weather. They are a huge huge improvement in all aspects of control. No brainer, if you need your vehicle to make a living and it snows where you live.
Where do you use chains as they are restricted and should not be used unless in the mountains and with dire weather.

I dont have winter tyres on the RR and nothing stops it.
obviously they are superb off road, however get your head out of your arse and look in your owners manual, they recommend winter tyres if you use your car in 4 wheel drive 4LLC which is the winter gears recommended for snow and ice, obviously summer tyres will do the job but why use summer tyres in the winter if the winter is bad? PS, you can take the boy out of essex but cannot take essex out of the boy :D

If you are running a Rolls Royce then let your man servant and chauffeur worry about the tyres.....
Rolls Royce my arse. essex runs a Reliant Robin.

To get out of the village, yes its mountainous and the weather is dire, basically i have them from skiing trips, nothing stops chains, you do need full snow cover as they are tricky on tarmac... lol

Do you guys that use the winters have them on another set of rims so it’s just a matter of jacking up and swapping over?

I had a spare set of rims for the Lotus that had gravel rash on them and where silver, standard rims where black so had a second hand set of tyres fitted and just swapped the rims over, before the E30 was garaged I also had a spare set of wheels as the profile was narrower and did the swap as its much easier then taking the lot to a tyre shop to swap the tyres over.

If you have the room to store the wheels a second set is the better option, in Europe in certain countries it is the law to roll on winter tyres within specific dates.

My brother how lives in the black mountain area of Wales has winter tyeson steel rims and summer tyes on Alloys rims and Normal tyes for rest off year, he went for the steel rims as they are stronger take the bumps better and yaks him less than an hour to swop I’ve to his alloy rims ( he dos drive a 4x4 Dacia duster has no problem getting to work in the winter as a lot off he driving is on single track roads) just have always wonder why he put the ally’s on as it does not make the duster like any better
