I live in an apartment and would like to have a vanity light installed above a mirrored cabinet in the main bathroom. Any ideas how this might be done and at what cost? A handy man told me it would be a messy job as without overhead access he'd have to run a chase from the ceiling light down though the wall where the vanity light would go. However, I'm wondering if this would be necessary as there's a shaver socket on a wall adjacent to the mirrored cabinet with an access panel beneath it, so I'm wondering if a wire could be fished from the shaver socket through to the stud wall behind the cabinet.

usually I can fish a cable down a stud wall from the attic. just drill ahole in the top stud and a hole where you want the cable to come out,

should not be hard to tap off the shaver socket. it should be on the lighting circuit, so no worries there. vanityunit should have a built in on/off switch, save running to a separate switch.

A good electrician is skilled at figuring out the best cable run to comply with regs and cause minimum disruption and decorating.
they are also going to be equipped with special rods, wires, chains and other witchcraft to pull cables through walls.

a local handyman is likely to be experienced in patching and painting walls but may not be quite as experienced in the art of invisible cable routing.

get a couple of quotes from electricians, they should be able to talk you through what is involved and when they have finished the work, they will provide you with a certificate to show it is both safe and compliance with the regulations has been achieved.

Thank you, both. Seems like common sense may have prevailed, and the fellow is indeed going for one of the modern mirrors you mentioned...
