Wiring a 5 bedroom house

Hello Everyone,

I am not sure of the etiquette here on the forum, but I would like to start by extending warm greetings to everyone in the house. This forum is very useful for me and I have learnt a lot from it.

I would like to ask a question, its about the list of materials required to wire a 5 bed house. I have the list below, and would like to know if its correct etc.

3/4 double sockets per bedroom, and everywhere will have spot lights apart from the bedrooms. I also plan to use a double electric oven, which is rated at 4,400W and hence a 6mm cable needs to be used. The distance is about 10m from the board to the kitchen. Below are the oven specification.

Are you a Qualified electrician ?
are you registered with a trade body for Part P ?

As of 1 January 2005 it is a legal requirement for all work on fixed electrical installations in dwellings and associated buildings to comply with relevant standards. The relevant UK standard is BS 7671:2008, 'Requirements for electrical installations' (The IEE Wiring Regulations 17th Edition). BS 7671 covers requirements for design, installation, inspection, testing, verification and certification.

Best you ask for a reputable Suitably qualifed and registered contractor to carry out the installation for you, and then to provide you with the relevant certification and registration to the Local Authority

or risk electrocuting yourself or a massive fine or both

I am not doing the work myself, as i am not an electrician. Just want to ensure that the list of materials is somewhat correct, as i supply the materials to the sparkie.

Then you would be best checking the list of materials with the person carrying out the work so they can check it is suitable.

you are on your own matey....... this forum isn't going to give you a detailed list so you can supply cheap and nasty products to some unsuspecting sparks.

its 20 percent
that covers my time, my knowledge, and the fact that I often forget something, and have to pay for it myself

if you take your expensive German car in for a service, do you purchase the oil and filters, plugs, brake pads as cheaply as you can ?

Without seeing the job we cannot know if it is correct. That is for you and your electrician to work out.
If they have produced the list for you why are you asking about it on here ? Don't you trust the electrician ?

It is not negative, you do realise that the Law changed a few years ago, Corporate Manslaughter can be used to Imprison a person who kills through poor workmanship/shoddy materials, unskilled labour

if the Electrician has missed something off ( it happens) then you will have to pay for it later

You have a contract with a Sparkie, even a verbal contract is a contract in law
if he gets it wrong argue it with him
or do you think he is trying to make a few quid by getting you to provide extra materials ?
Hows that Nice German Car ? an AUDI is it ?

If that list was created by a spark then he or she isn't a very good one...

Do you have ANY idea of the knowledge of the parts and time it takes to get this all right?

Whenever somebody tries to do this to me I simply point out that for every minute/hour wasted by the parts being wrong/ not available will be changed at my normal rate.................... and I won't warranty anything that the client has supplied.....

So no, not being negative. Simply realistic.

My Motor Engineer ( he is a Proper motor engineer) had a chap in with a Skoda Octavia Diesel Estate identical to mine
Cam belt change was due, John quoted for normal service, plus cam belt, idler pulleys, tensioner, water pump, and Aux belt, plus some bolts that need replacing at the same time
Chap decided that John Knew nothing, and bought a cam belt off ebay
got a mate to fit it ( who is a mechanic, well works at quick fit)
4 weeks later spanking up the M way on Holiday
water pump seizes, strips belt
pistons hit valves, massive bang
the car had only done 35K and is now worth 100 quid for scrap
my Octavia that was always serviced using the correct parts, recently passed 200K in the hands of its new owner
I never bothers asking him what parts were needed or how much they cost
just left him to it
some people know the price of everything and the value of nothing

Don't think he would be happy with the single core cable you want to supply him with, or the 2.5 3 core and earth come to that

No your list the one your Electrician has given you is sadly not a list that a professional Electrician would have provided:
You said in your original post that the cooker is some 10M from the CU (fuseboard) and has specified 10M of cable, that statement alone is confusing, the distance may be 10M but by the time the Electrician had navigated corners obstacles he will undoubtedly find whilst running that circuit would be more like 15M or 16M in length, single cables? whats all that about? 25mm grommets 2.5 3core, shower shaver sockets, all smack (and I'm sorry to be so blunt) of someone who knows little if anything of wiring a domestic dwelling, it's plain to see that the amount of cable someone has specified is not only the wrong sort of cable, but the amount is know where near the amount needed for a 5 bedroom house. This Sparky you talk of where does he come from? because he certainly sounds like knows nothing. nd I'm not being negative, just truthful.

They come from a well known electrical distributor.
