wiring a pbx system advice..........

hi, thinking of wiring a PBX system for my telephone system in a multi point big house. there will be approx.12 points. the normal virgin media line can only withstand up to 4 telephones (4 REN). so have decided to go for a PBX telephone system with an optional voip capability. have chosen the panasonic KX-TDA15 PBX system for the distribution. see...... Can somenone please advise on the method of wiring to this box. i am considering sending round cat 6 cabling (becuse i will have loads of it left over) from "each" telephone point down to this PBX box putting an RJ45 connection to it and then use an adapter plug to finally connect to this panasonic PBX box. is this the right way of doing the wiring?... pls advise... i have below a youtube video of a similar setup; only the chap is using the standard flat cable to connect directly from the phone to pbx unit (as the phones are right next next to the unit!)...see below...

Yes, you have it more or less correct, but the adapters need to be plugged into the RJ45 wall sockets near the handsets. The PABX end of the Cat6 cable will need to be terminated onto RJ45 punch down blocks. With 12 extensions you would be better using a patch panel rather than individual RJ45 modules. You can get wall mounted patch panels with the punch down blocks on the front, like the item at the top of this page http://www.hyperline.com/catalog/patch-panels/rj45-fr-6.shtml

You will the need some RJ11 to RJ45 patch cords to connect from the patch panel to the PABX - e.g. http://www.run-it-direct.co.uk/RJ11toRJ45patchlead1M.html

It would be worth talking to the customer to see it they would want RJ45 points in other places in the house, e.g. next to the TV for connecting it to the Internet. In a large house, they may want wireless routers in a couple of locations as well.

Screwfix and fleabay have 12 wall mount patch panels, but these have cables terminating on the back of the modules so are a bit deeper.

tlangdon12 that sounds quite messy

with bare wires flying and exposed everywhere. but i too think that this is the logical setup. The house is mine not a customers.

Trouble is with wired point is that sooner or later things move and there isn't a power point or Ethernet point where it's needed. What about DECT phones with multiple handsets? Daz
