ok, we all know neon testers and volt sticks are not reliable. We've all had volt sticks lighting up on "dead" cables. ideally he should use a proper test meter ( calibrated of course ) but as I said earlier, was trying to keep it simple. Off to bed now ( orders )
 
1. identify the "live " red with a neon driver ( power on ) . if you not got one, £1.50 from any DIY store And possibly blow your hand off

Why not call your local electrician and ask him how much it would be to change a light switch that way it will be done correctly and you wont risk endangering your self

Yes the neutrals will be connected together in the same terminal and the earth joined in a 2screw earth connector just behind the switch.
