Hi my name is Adele, just qualified and new member to this web site. Need so advise off us guys on a job I've just looked at. New circuit required for hob and oven and need some advise on wiring, could I do this:

6mm from CU to cooker DP switch - then 6mm to cooker connection unit for the hob (this I know) would I then run 6mm from the supply side of the cooker DP switch to 13a Fused switched spur and used 2.5mm from that spur to single socket or the oven
Many Thanks

Depends on the size of the hob and oven some of these ovens can be 4 to 6 kw,i would do it this way use a 6 mm TWE for the hob and then a seperate 2.5mm for the oven and protect the hob with a 32 amp MCB and 16 amp for the oven less risk of overload on the 6 mm , some ovens are pre wired with a 1.5 HR flex so would have to be fused down via a fused spur, also assuming that the CDU is a 17th edition ,or RCBOs /RCD may be required depending on the installation methods

yes so that you can isolate, depending on the size of the oven if the oven is over 2.4KW but below 3 kw then you will need a double pole 20 amp switch and protect with a 16 amp mcb ,between 3 and 4 kw protect with a 20 amp mcb / 20 amp switch ,the magority of ovens are between 2 and 3 kw but as ive said some of these double ovens can be higher , 3kw ovens / appliances should not be fused as 3000 / 230 = 13 , running the fuse at full load could cause the fuse to over heat and melt the holder ,seen it so many times

hi mate so is it not ok for a 3200w oven this equates to 13.9amp so a 16amp CB and 2.5mm T/E to 20amp DP and then a 20amp flex outlet to 1.5mm heat resistant flex as oven manufacturer states the size of the flex so would this not be ok

Well it depends on the total wattage after you have applied diversity doesnt it.
But assuming you are ok with the circuit deign current go from cu using 6mm to ccu (cooker switch) then down to a dual box so one side utilizes a cooker outlet & the other side is a single socket.
Or just continue circuit from cooker outlet to wher you want the hob connection to be, the only restriction you have here is that both appliances need to be no more than 2mtrs from the ccu.

well 1.5mm will be fine upto 16amp it's not the cable he is refferring to but the fuse rated at 13amp.

always start with your standard circuit design procedures.

generally a 6mm cable on a 32a mcb is suitable for most cooker circuits and can feed two or more items upto 50a

run 6mm to dp isolator then drop down to dual outlet plate DRY LINING BOX DUAL - 8582 - PRO ELEC
or single outlet and run spur to socket (also in 6mm)

dont forget you can apply diversity calc for your circuit

I have an Oven Hob to install as posted, the oven as a cable attached but requires minimum 15Amp fuse, in this instance what would you advise as a standard 3 pin plug only has a 13 map fuse ??
My installation is a cooker outlet with 6 mm cable to outlet box.

Manufacturers instructions in all cases over rule the regs. As installation instructions will always say "Must be installed to the current wiring regulations and In accordance with the manufacturers instructions".

cheers........Howard
