Wiring PIR/PS's and lights

Hi Guys,

I'm relatively new to the industry and am currently going to college. How do you wire a PIR and lights in single core cables ? Any pics of how it's done would be very helpful.

hi dave , just feed the PIR first , live and neutral, then the light off the PIR

Hi Birdman,

So just live, neutral and earth to PIR and the same out to the light and then onto the next light etc. I'm crap at lighting and need to build up my knowledge. What about emergency lights on the same circuit as a lighting circuit. Is that just L,N,E to all the lights including emergency ?

You run L, N, & E to each fitting, with an extra permanent unswitched L to each emergency fitting.

Ta. Just to clarify, take two browns from the board - one goes into the common of the switch the other brown from the board straight to the emergency light. The switch line from the switch goes to the normal lights and the emergency as well ?? or have I got that wrong ?

Why take 2 browns from the board? Just take the brown to the switch and take a stab into the common then on to the emergency light....

That's correct, there should be four terminations at each emergency fitting, usually marked L1, L2, E & N.
Permanent line to L1, switched line to L2.

It's now making sense. One Live from board to the switch. From the switch take a perm live and a switch live to the emergency fitting. Onto the normal light miss out the perm live and only connect the switch live, neutral and earth ?

Next you have to consider methods for testing the emergency lights.
