I have just got a job to add an additional triple socket outlet and satellite / tv point about 4ft 6in up the wall simple you might say but when i got there the customer had chased out the wall which turns out is made of comressed straw !! (Bryant Home i'm told). There are two skts in the bedroom on a ring circuit wired in 2.5mm T&E.
My question is what type of back box would you recommend to go in a wall made of straw and i was going to use conduit to run the cables in to bring the current capacity up to Method A (BRB Table 4D5) as i assume otherwise it would be Method 103. I was also thinking of breaking into the ring at the two sockets in the bedroom and using 4mm T&E to bring current capacity up and connect the new skt as part of the ring.
The circuits are protected by 3036 rewirable fuses customer does not want RCD and second CCU fitted and is prepared to sign to say so. Would he sign a note on the minor works certificate?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Peter

personally, i would walk away. if you do as he wants, no RCD, not only is your work not to regs. but if anyone gets electrocuted, it's you who will go to jail, do not pass GO. and thats without the additional prob of the straw walls

this id use a plastic conduit box and put the cables into conduit the other thing i would use is an RCD socket , oh the one thing you need to check is if he has his bonding and supplimentary bonding in place unless all the pipe work is plastic , all bonding should be in place after you have finished the work if the pipe work is copper , you have to comply with the regs and Part P ,it your name on the cert , so watch your back personally id walk away

I'd probably walk away if they don't want job to be to regs. Whos the spark you or him. Don't think there is a get out even if he signs a testimonial, because you'll be signing the cert saying that your work will comply with regs. But it won't, so you'd be lying.

just what i said, amp. enough hassle with jobs they want doing right without penny pinching idiots like it looks he,s got here

I think i will have one last go at convincing him to put in rcd protection and if not then i'll walk away.

If he does agree does everyone think what i propose as a method of doing the job is ok?

Always makes me laugh when they say something along the lines of, 'erm yes, we are planning to do that early next year'.

Why early next year and not now? Don't tell me they are skint, as if they are why are they asking for sockets and TV point for a nice new flat screen. Suppose it'll be on the never never.
