wondering what tools to get

Hi all,
I'm new to the site and need some advice

I'm an apprentice at the moment and I am going through the stage of buying all my tools and drills. I have all my hand tools now and wondering what drills to get. Don't know whether to get makita or dewalt.... What are your thoughts? I work mostly in the industrial side of things but occasionally house bash.

We use a lot of DeWalt 18V battery tools which last quite well when not stolen!, brushes eventually wear out on the drills, but replacements are available at reasonable prices. Try to stick with one make/voltage, saves carrying extra batteries/chargers.

Makita lithium drills and impact guns are very good but their batteries are crap !! that's the only thing that lets them down sadly.

i have a large makita kit with 5 batteries.. we go through at least one battery a month. luckily they are replaced under warranty

Cheers lads, I have a 12v dewalt drill at the moment that I had given to me and I quite like it. But it's just not powerful enough at all, ie been told makita are good but dewalt are more durable and last alot longer...

may be true.

not tried the latest dewalt stuff so don't yet know how reliable they are

I'd swear on me mains (230v) Bosch SDS drill. As for me 18v Bosch combi driver. Forget that one. It stops on anything over 20mm. Too much for it. But good as a screwdriver.

I must be lucky, been on the same 4 batteries for over 4 years!

i've got dewalt 24v hammer drill, 18v makita combi, 12v bosch screwdriver, and 230v bosch sds, i think the secret is using the right one for it's intended purpose then they should last a bit longer and as robostar said if they don't get stolen .
I have had 3 18v makita combis stolen over the last 13 years at a total cost of somewhere around 1300.00 so be careful with them:wink5:

Milwaukee 18v brushless kit.. Impact driver and drill brushless, whereas the other skins you buy will have brushes.. 5 year warranty on gear and a 3 year warranty on batteries.. I'd suss out warranties before you lash out!
