what wood bits do you reccomend useing coz them flat bits are pap is there any top quality ones i dont no about cheers

I use them irwin groove jobbies with an impact driver, works a treat.

I know impact drivers arn't supposed to be used for this, but its like a hot knife through butter!

I posted on here a while that Wickes black flat drilll bits are suprisingly good.

They are good but they do get blunted quite quick (but they are only a tenner for a full set and a little tool roll).

I had some beaver bits and they are AMAZING but plumbers love them if you know what I mean and I got fed up of shelling out for new ones.

dewalt self feed bit from Screwwys ÂŁ13 for the 25mm but worth every penny! or they do a set of forstner (?) bits for the same money cheapie brand

Flat bits, especially the screw centre point self feed types, have couple of advantages:- 1) If you hit an unexpected nail, a common hazard for the sparky, the flat bit can usually be restored in minutes with a flat file (other types usually require a diamond hone). 2) If you do wreck one the cost of replacement is usually a fraction of the auger, forstner, or wood beaver types. The disadvantages with the flat bit:- 3) They require a higher torque generally than their more sophisticated cousins and therefore are battery sapping, this is less of an issue than it once was due to lithium-ion battery technologies. 4) Because of the high torque required to drive them, the large sizes are prone to twisted and bent shafts, usually caused by not applying the drill bit square to the wood.

i got 2 sets of them just before christmas as they were on offer a fiver each done the job like flat bits just not for me now sick of them

If you want to stick with cheap flat bits then go for bosch. They have the screw end and go through much easier then the standard flat bits.

Ive tried so many flat bits like makita and other cheapies but bosch beat them all.

They only about ÂŁ3 a piece.
