Just wondered if any of you have experience of working outside of europe.

Not far from qualified and have always fancied doing some traveling. I've heard about people going to middle east/africa working, but not sure how you come accross that sort of work! is it just luck if you happen to know someone working there, or do people tend to go through agencies?

cheers

Have worked abroad for many years, mainly in europe, mid east and turkey.

Specialist machinery installation mainly not contracting. Best way to find work is word of mouth and usually working for a uk based company, only prob with that is you pay uk taxes but at least you speak the same language when it comes to money.

Always find out working conditions and travel/accomodation/living expenses before you go anywhere, and remember that you are abroad and that getting home takes a bit longer and its not like being at home with your mates/mum to look after you.

What kind of work you looking for?

Cheers G

Hi, thanks for your reply. Well my background is domestic mainly, but the company I work for dabbles is commercial and industrial. Would preferably like to do Industrial work really if had the choice, but anything vaigly similar would be good. Always fancied travelling, but i`m the sort of person who can`t turn down work when it`s offered!

Epic recruitment are looking for sparks for supreme foods in afghanistan the woman there is Patsy Clark, but don't tell her I advised you as I turned it down to come back out to saudi lol not her flavour of the month.

My email is on here if you want to send your CV out here I can put a few feelers out, the only trouble you might find is age or experience.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I won`t send my CV yet, only because I havn`t yet completed my NVQ. About 80% there, so not long. I will however keep a hold of your e-mail address and get in touch when it`s finished. Thanks again

I worked in the FALKLAND ISLANDS (over 8000 miles away) in 2002, on a MOD Contract, for a company called Royce Communications, in BASINGSTOKE, also the FRENCH ALPS, in 99 for SKYBOUND, part of First Choice Holidays, so i've been lucky I guess? Engaged now and moved to Kernow (Cornwall) , But would Consider it again, working out of UK, If? money was right?

Any more experiences working abroad that anyone would like to share? I'm in the same boat as the TS and I've always fancied working abroad, but I'm not yet fully qualified (not far away now, though!). I have mostly worked on industrial and commercial sites, but I also have domestic experience, although I'd prefer to keep working on industrial and commerical sites. I'm mostly interested in working in Canada, Germany and the US of A, but I wouldn't mind working in Spain for a short period either. I hope to have finished my site diary, AM2, 2330 level 3 and 2391-1 in the next year, and I'd like to get a few more years under my belt on the tools before I venture abroad as well.

I would love to go straight to Japan but I've heard that it's a nightmare and immensely time consuming trying to get our qualifications recognised over there. Should I expect to retake all of my qualifications if I decide to go to any of the countries I mentioned?

Any help or details of previous experience with regards to becoming an electrician abroad would be most appreciated. Cheers.
