I have been looking at both sanyho Hit N240's and Schott 235's on pv_sol. It seems there is not a lot of difference in the annual KWh produced by the sanyo where as it could cost my customer up to ÂŁ2k. How do people justify spending the extra on the sanyo when it wont payback the difference?

Am i missing something here? i must be...

You and me both. Never been able to come up with a justification to use Sanyo unless roof space is tight and customer wants biggest possible system. Yet, others seem to fit nothing else!

Have a look at the schott 235 polys compared to i think it was sharp 235 and 240 mono , then look at the build quality and it's bye bye sharp !
In my opinion schott were seriously under rated up until the rush , when i was ordering back in all the madness i spoke to someone at segen that said schott had just become their top selling module just before the rush .

Yes the figures in pv sol with same inverter are negotiable. Maybe an extra ÂŁ50-ÂŁ70yr, Which by no means covers the extra initial expenditure.

I done some work to two big solar companies before the rush and they were all schott modules too! They must be quite good, as well as relatively cheap for the whole kit.

Have a look at pvoutput.org. Look at the live outputs for the UK. Filter this for kwh/kW and about 7 of the top 10 are sanyo. I know this is not very scientific but backs up their performance in real time.

I think PV sol works on fairly standardised outputs for panels which aren't very panel specific. I have read that Sanyo output is 10-15% better than other mono panels. depending on how many you were looking at but on a 4kW stystem thats probably ÂŁ150-200 a year. On that basis the extra cost would take 10-15 years to pay back, so I too find it hard to justify. The only time I have used Sanyo is where it makes a difference to the number of panels that will fit on the roof.
I have used Schott 235s and thought they were pretty well made, although large for their output. if Space is no problem then 17 panels will give you 3.995kW which is handy and for farm or small holding use they also have uric acid certification.

If as you say the premium price for sanyo is paid off in 10-15 years, surely they are worth it, as over 25 years you will generate ÂŁ2000 extra return on your investment.

not really. It depends on how long they intend to stay in the property and what else they could do with that money instead. If we're looking at ÂŁ2000 plus the initial invesment back over 25 years that doesn't look too good (only equivalent to about 3% annual growth on your initial ÂŁ2000)

Thats also based on the old 43.3 tariff. on the new one your looking at 20-30 years payback. I've given a few people the option, non of them have taken it (except as above) and I wouldn't either TBH and I can't morally sell something to someone I don't believe in myself.

They are lovely quality, but so are other much cheaper panels.

Ive just taken a long look through Pvoutput.org...

It would very much seem that the return from the sanyo is quite substantially better than its rivals. So i suppose in a way the proofs in the pudding? I know Pv_sol only estimate it slightly higher but it seems in reality the Sanyo's are a much stronger KWh producer!

I need to give customer a quote tomorrow (along with advice on best system) and im border line telling them the sanyo could well be better to go with. I wont make any more money either way as installation fee remains the same, but id like to give them the best system for there money!

To be honest, all of our highest performing installs are Sanyo systems.

If it was my house I would still choose something else. They're still overpriced in my opinion.

PV-Sol treats the sanyos as mono's. PV-Syst accounts for the HIT technology so if anyone is running that could you do us a comparison, i'd like to have this cleared up.

We've done more schott than sanyo, like others have said i'll only use sanyo on a small roof.

Only problem with schott is the stacking system during delivery, we've had 6 panels turn up shattered this year, 4 in November when we really could have done without extra hassle, also still trying to get the refund from Segen for damaged ones we received in JULY!!! Get on with it Segen...

I have a test bed on our roof with 3.6kw of REC, Sanyo, Yingli, Emmvee (structured glass), Q Cells Q Smart cigs thin film and a CdTe thin film. Obviously I'm not going to give you all the results as this has cost us a lot of money to set up but I will say the REC are winning at the moment!
