Last year we installed 20 odd 20w led floods in a church to replace there old 400 w floods. Now 3 unit have since failed the units are only used on. Sunday so very low usage. Now the manufacture of these unit offers a 1 year on site warranty great so they will come out and replace them.
Nope that is not the case the units are not covered by the warranty due to them being fitted inside when the instructions recommend outdoor use.
I will not name the manufacture but let's just say the Orange shed did there boards for ÂŁ50

My mate Craig is a computer genius, does a lot of work for the MoD which he can't talk about. He's got more money than sense. He decided to treat himself to a custom made Overwater bass, ÂŁ3.5k to make it. It was a thing of outstanding beauty.
He didn't like it and sold it at a massive loss.

I used to do "things" for that organisation too and had many trips to Boscombe Down. Say no more etc.

I think the Overwater bass is another Marmite thing - some love it and others ...... don't, but there's no denying Chris May is one hell of a craftsman.

Aye .. seen it mesel' ....... Ex-wife was a Methodist 'n' in the early days afore we wez even engaged she draggedis alang t' th' chapel one neet an' here's this gadgee shootin' 'n' baalin' aboot us all bein' sinners 'n' all an' gannin' t' Hell 'n' Damnation in a handcart so aah luked at him - all hard lyke an' as sez t' 'im "Whey the Hell are ye shootin 'n' baalin at .. caalin'me a sinner just cos aahm ganna shag the arse of yer Sunda Skyule Teacher here just as soon as ahh gerra ootta here???"

I wasn't invited back the following week! :)

Methodists? Church? Ginger Sunday School munters?? naaaaa........ I had more fun in the churchyard with my gorgeous blonde, blue eyed young farmer (whom I should have married) who specialised in training racehorses......... than I ever did in a church!!!!!! :dita:

Back to the ops issue.....Led light units of this or greater wattage, require heat sinks to dissipate the heat. Usually part of the casing. I would say, that the heat sink must be capable of dissipating the heat in normal ambient temperatures, and list the working temperatures as required by CE. ie -10c to 50c I would also suggest, if these unit cannot be used internal due to temperature criteria...then they cannot be sold abroad to countries with hotter climates. I can post the make model, i would certainly like to read the instructions for a disclaimer...

Update more units have now failed and one flickering. The units are british General standard 20w floods. I am going to upload the instructions I have here. I now need to find a replace unit as I am going to replace the lot.
The wholesalers are going to love this return but 7 units failing in under a year is to high. [ElectriciansForums.net] Your thoughts on this problem

The plot just thickened.

Sounds like BG have covered themselves, however I am in no way defending a poor design.

Will the wholesalers take them back? I mean, if they have been installed incorrectly then has the warranty been voided?

I'm not in a position to advise on this but would love to know the outcome. One thing I do know is that some wholesalers offer an in-house lighting design. It may be worth getting some recommended fittings so that you have someone to blame.

Hope you get it sorted.
