When testing Ze you isolate the supply, disconnect the MET and test between Line and Earth on the supply side of the main isolator. The Neutral test lead on your tester needs to be connected to something I think, but what? and why?

Hi it all depends on what make of tester you are using some require only two leads some three ive got a metrel instaltest and neutral earth leads twinned together for the earth connection and the positive for the live.Just have to read the manufacturers information

Live to incoming live
Neutral to incoming neutral

Then green connected to your disconnected incoming earth...

I thought this is how they all worked

fluke 1651 requies 3 leads whereas my megger 1552 requires 2 - dont know what the shiney new 1553 needs, never used it yet its still in the box :)

only needs 2 mate only 2...!!

im converting my 3 lead tester to 2 leads...!! bit of gaffa tape and stuff will joint my green and black leads..!!:D

Indeed, most testers do only require two leads, however, some companies test leads enables you to "piggy back" the earth and neutral.

If you dont have this facility then its good practice to connect the neutral as normal to save having a lead dangling around. :D

The inclusion of the third lead also assissts with verification of polarity.

I use all three leads, and connect as normal. then piggy back my neutral and earth when I go from testing pfc to testing psc.

hi every 1 im new to this please could you help me iv run through all my test and have come stuck on ze im getting a reading of 139.4 OMS its a tt system so that ok but my pfc is low and i mean low only 2amp please help

What is the problem???

With such a high "Ze" the fault current that may arise will be very low, the calculation works out to be in the area of 2A - 230/139 = 1.7A.

so i just record on paper work ze at origin 139.4
BUT PFC ON FORM IS KA BUT IM ONLY GETING 1 AMP WILL THIS BE OK SURELY NOT ALL TT IV DONE BEFORE HAVE HAD READING LIKE 100OMS AND THEN 15KA PFC
