I guess that is the minimum. mostly I have used metal box grid switches and they are tight....35mm back box no problem.

Yes definitely always use a 35mm deep box as a minimum but 47mm definitely makes life easier as can be a bit of faff in 35mm but not an issue if cut to length and dressed neatlyI guess that is the minimum. mostly I have used metal box grid switches and they are tight.
Flat plate grid dimmers spring to mind.They are never deep enough!
