Bristan PM2 SHC3STP C

I have a Bristan PM VSHXSP Prism Inline Vertical Shower Pole with Fixed Head that needs a bit of care. The diverter pulses and needs a new spring and there are general leaks throughout the pole. This is a discontinued model and spares seem impossible to obtain. I have a couple of questions:

Is there a direct replacement for this type of shower where the feeds are about 3” above one another.

Does anyone know of spares for this particular Bristan shower?

Any recommendations so as not to...

Boiler bypass always opening

Hi all - hopefully I can get some answer to a maddening issue. The boiler bypass just refuses to stop letting water through.

Here is the run down. We bought the house last year. It has a Vaillant Ecotec Plus 418 which is only 3 years old. It's on a Y plan, with a hot water cylinder that looks to have been installed at the same time as the boiler - it's very new and a sealed foam type.

When we moved in we had new rads all round and all the microbore removed. The system was powerflushed...

Bathroom fitting experience; Plumbers Forums

Hi all.
I am looking for a career change at 45 years old!! I am interested in bathroom fitting. I have done a very basic course a few years ago and learnt basic plumbing. I have changed basins, and basin and bath taps at home and for family. I was wondering if there are any bathroom fitters that would like some free labour in the Brighton and Hove area. I have my own transport and tools etc. I work shifts in my day job so could fit in around that. If anyone interested drop me private...

This is my first post here and would be greatfull for any advice on the issue I am having currently.

The rest of the ensuit was not finished till recently so the shower was not used for maybe 2 years...

Novice Needs Advice On New Shower System Please...; Plumbers Forums

Hi All,

I am at the planning stage of a bathroom refurb & am looking for a new Shower with Body Jets. Ideally I would want an reputable brand like Aqualisa, Bristan etc so it will last many years & spares should not be a problem - however I don't think my budget will allow for a Grohe or Hansgrohe.

I plan on using my own Overhead Drencher & own Handheld so am looking for a system that has:

1) Overhead Drencher
2) Pole Mounted Hand Held
3) 6-8 Body Jets.

Very Important: The system MUST...

Shower Tray

Hi, have recently decided my old shower had to go , so have ripped most of it out. It is situated in a separate shower room with a external wall at one end and the sides composed of stud walls. The distance (width to opposite side ) of the studding is 770mm, the old plaster board on the studding has been removed. I intend to replace the plaster board with Jackoboard with a nominal thickness of 12mm so that would bring the gap to 770-24 = 746mm.
The most suitable tray width is 760 mm, which...

Replacing a 12 year old air source heat pump

Hello, I hope someone can give me some advice on replacing an old air source heat pump.
We moved into a shared ownership house last year which has a Daiken air source heat pump fitted to provide heating and hot water. The unit was fitted when the house was built 12 years ago. It seems that the previous owners of the house weren't too bothered about getting the unit serviced and the unit has died on us, although I think 12 years is about the average lifespan for older ASHP units.
We had an...

Poor workmanship?

I have just had a ASHP installed, grant funded as I am over 77.
The expansion tanks touch, hot water pipes are touching with electric cables running over them!
One radiator, replacing an older radiator has pipes that come though a brick wall and skirting board, why, when the radiator it replaced pipes came up through the floor boards. One condition of the install was I should be out of the house while they were working .

Location of Macerator; Plumbers Forums

I'm fitting an en-suite cc wc in the small bedroom and I'm tight on space. Is it doable to fit a macerator beside the wc?
I'm thinking of something like a 'McAlpine WC-con8f flexible connector' or would it be better to use non-flexible fittings?
Also the pan has no screw holes for fitting so it's going to be glued down, this is new to me and another reason to put the waste unit beside the pan. Perhaps there's a hack to fitting this wc without gluing to allow access to a maserator behind the...

Is this a check valve?; Plumbers Forums

Hi, new here. Fairly competent DIYer but I don't do much plumbing.

I'm just putting some MDPE plumbing services in a Polytunnel I've built.

I just want to know if this (see photo) is a Double Check Valve/ Non Return valve on the outside water supply feed. Can someone confirm if it is please?

Thanks in advance.

Thermostat behaving abnormally

Hi

When I go to bed I manually set my thermostat to 17.5 so the temperature never falls below and when we wake up it is not too cold.

However, recently in the morning the temperature is actually BELOW what i set.

There is not an 'auto' programme set on there either.

Example:
When waking up the temp is 16.

But, I had set it to 17.5, as can be seen when i press the 'i' button.

Thanks

TMV or not?

My old system that was a vented thermal storage tank. Fitted to it was a TMV ensuring safe hot water.

I had fitted a new S Plan, unvented system and found the water is coming out very hot. I’ve ensured the tank temperature is 60ish. But it seems the new system doesn’t have a TMV.

Question:
1. Is this normal to not fit a TMV?
2. Should I get one fitted or live with the hotter water? Do the pros of TMVs get outweighed by Cons? Not sure why one wasn’t fitted or the previous one reused?

Looking for a good pipe bender

Hi all

I'm looking for advice on a pipe bender. It'll be for 3/8" SS pipe. I've been looking at a 'RIDGID 606 3/8" Heavy Duty Instrument Bender' at £194.77 inc. VAT. I tried to post a link but doesn't look like I can (@Dan ??) Anyone got any comments on that one or suggestions for a better one, possibly hydraulic ? It's going to be used for oil pipework on dissolved fault gas analysers on transformers at power stations. As mentioned, pipework will be stainless steel with Swagelok...

Can I have a hidden macerator for a bathroom with a corner toilet?; Plumbers Forums

Hi 👋🏻 newbie here,

We’re currently renovating our en-suite and want to make the most of space, plus I think macerators looks absolutely diabolical.

It’s an old home so a macerator is needed for the toilet, sink and shower.

I want to put in a corner toilet for space saving and we have space behind a stud for a macerator in an under-stairs cupboard.

Is this possible? And if so what macerator would you recommend?

Would a SaniPack Pro Up be suitable for something like this?

Thank you so...

Turn one tap on, the other tap almost no water comes out...

Hello,
A novice question I'm sure.

What's the issue here? some sort of pressure issues of course but was it due to bad plumbing. What's needed in a house to ensure not matter how many taps are on the water still comes out full blast?

On top of this a similar issue is turn on tap on down stairs the kitchen sink for instance and then who ever is in the shower gets angry because they were showering in ice cold water. Why didn't the plumbers that installed the piping put some kind of device...

HOT WATER PROBLEM - PLEASE HELP

Wondering if anyone can help please!

The current problem with our water is noticed mainly through hair-washing and showering. The water is not discoloured and has no smell however it has a slimy/waxy feel. When washing our hair, we have to shampoo it twice every time. Even after doing so it still leaves a waxy/unclean feel to the hair, almost like it was washed 2 days ago!

We are confident that our water problem is a plumbing issue of some sort as our local water board has confirmed that...

Clear silicony gunk in radiator; Plumbers Forums

Does anyone have any idea what clear silicony lumps and globules is in the rad water? It seems to have travelled to the air vent bleed valves. If I take the whole valve unit out, I can get it out OK with a turkey baster tube on a wet vac'. But if I just bleed the rad' using the key, the water jet starts off OK but then will stop, and a lot of screwing is need to get the lump stuff out the hole!
It's not silicon as it has not hardened nor is it water soluble and it is hard enough to block off...

Leaking copper pipe; Plumbers Forums

Hi - totally new here and really need some advice. I have a pin hole in a 10mm copper wall pipe that supplies a nearby radiator. The hole is about 4cm from the bottom of coving. I have looked at the repair patches but these are for 15mm pipe as are the other fixes available - cannot find it in 10mm. The leak is a dribble with everything on so not pouring out but leaking. I have had 3 plumbers come and look at the leak and the advice has been different on each one and the prices seem too...

Need help understanding my heating system

I'm hoping someone can help me work out my central heating system please... I've just moved into a new house with an unvented OSO cylinder, a Danfoss FP720 programmer and underfloor heating controlled by Aube TH 232 thermostats and it is starting to drive me crazy!!

We have 3 bathrooms with showers, 1 of which is on the 1st floor, and the kitchen located in between - The boiler, OSO Cylinder and Danfoss Programmer are all located in the garage. What looks to me as the logical and most...

No heating downstairs combi boiler

At my sons house, had 2 radiators downstairs that would never heat up, so thinking that the locks held valve was down, today we replaced the valves, but still got the same issue.

He has a glowworm ultracom cxi combi boiler, upstairs gets hot quite quickly, we have bled all radiators, and tried to balance the system, but to no avail.

He has a policy for boiler service and parts only. I think it is with utility warehouse.
Should he just call them out and see what they say, just call a local...

Complicated bathroom waste; Plumbers Forums

Hi All,

After some expert opinions.

Moving bathroom from one room to the next.

Hopefully my drawing and pictures are clear enough.

1) is it ok to come into the bath waste line with the washing machine waste using a swept T, the vertical point at entry can actually be allot higher than I have drawn it. This provides a chance for water to backup into the bath if the boss at the soil pipe blocks up.

2) Shower - Ceiling is fairly low, so no room for raising the tray. I have managed to get...
