customer wants boiler in unheated storeroom plumbing advice

customer wants boiler in unheated storeroom unheated storeroom, with louvre doors open to outside due to ventilation system installed in same room
warned them about risk of freezing - boiler will only be used a couple of days a week.
i know it will have a frost-stat, but that would not protect if there was a power failure, RCD trip etc.
Insulation of pipework would have to be 35mm, but that leaves valves,, filter, de-aerator - difficult to insulate them.
What else can i say to discourage the...

Seized Filling Loop Tap plumbing advice

Mixer Tap Cartridge change advise. plumbing advice

Mixer Tap Cartridge change advise. Hi

Our kitchen mixer tap is leaking around the bottom. Unsure where the leak is coming from but suspect/hope a new cartridge will fix it.

I am not a confident DIY guy, our mains pressure is really high and so plumbing makes me nervous 😂 but I feel like this is a job I should really be able to do for myself.

Am I ok to isolate the tap using the isolation valves, pictures attached? Or will I need to go through the pain of turning off the mains supply to...

What plumbing tape is recommended for a copper waste water pipe plumbing advice

What plumbing tape is recommended for a copper waste water pipe Hi there,
We have a leaking waste water pipe which our washing machine, boiler and dishwasher feed into. We are working on getting a plumber in to fix but it is taking a while because access is awkward.
In the meantime, we're looking at using some tape to seal the leak but there are lots of different types (at different prices). Can anyone advise on what we should use?
We are looking to temporarily seal a copper waste water...

[ElectriciansForums.net] Programmable digital cylinder stat plumbing advice

I am looking for something to control my cylinder, that can be programmed down at night with the ability to set the differential. This model works great for the hot tub and you can set the on/off...

Heatrae Sadia multipoint 50 issue? plumbing advice

Heatrae Sadia multipoint 50 issue? Hi folks
I’ve never installed or maintained the water heater above but today I’ve isolated the cold into the heater but lived up the mains to it so that it could feed the other appliances.
I noticed that water was passing through the tundish. As id isolated the feed into the heater I ruled out the temp/prv on top of the unit being the issue. I checked the vessel which was flat and full of water, so I replaced it. Still water passing through tundish. There...

Is this bend in a PEX pipe too much? plumbing advice

Is this bend in a PEX pipe too much? Hi,

I by chance discovered that amongst a bunch of copper pipes, I have a PEX pipe that runs through a void between the original house and extension. The image is from the back of a store cupboard where the pipes run up and then into the original house between floors.

I suspect this pipe has been in place for at least 12 years, if not more. We have lived here for 5. It was only when I looked up the void, I discovered this bend. Personally, I'd have...

Higher than normal co on new Grant 15-21 plumbing advice

Higher than normal co on new Grant 15-21 Wondering if anyone can shed some light. Installed a grant 15-21 internal utility boiler on Wednesday. Has a lo nox burner so co2 needs to be 12.5%. Got the co2 at 12.5% but just can’t get the co level down. Sitting at 75ppm which I know is lower than 100, but all the grants I’ve installed before co usually well below 30ppm. Bit of context it has a vertical balanced flue no bends and is well within max flue length. Just can’t get this job out of my...

Tape for pipe insulation plumbing advice

Tape for pipe insulation Does anyone have recommendations for tape to seal the seams in foam pipe insulation? Most tape seems to get brittle over time and lose its stickiness and lets go.

Also does anyone know of a foam pipe wrap? There are a lot of spots around pipe clamps, valves, pumps, etc. that cannot be covered. All I can find online is something that looks like bubblewrap with foil on both sides. It works great, but it is very flammable (found that out soldering one day). Some kind...

Radiator tails weeping plumbing advice

Radiator tails weeping Hi all,

I fitted my first rad the other day and unfortunately both tails are weeping. Whilst holding the tail in my left hand I wrapped ptfe between 15 and 20 turns clockwise. I screwed them in with my radiator spanner as far as they would go, not quite up to the last thread though.

Im going to drain the system (its only a couple of rads) and try again. I guess the options are to try and screw them in a little further? Or Shall I start again and try more turns or...

What could be causing this noise in the tundish? plumbing advice

What could be causing this noise in the tundish? Hi all, anyone know what could be causing this? Everytime I flush the toilet the (what I think is called) tundish makes a gurgling sound. I live in a flat and sometimes when the people upstairs flush too it can be heard. I had a similar issue about 4 months ago whereby it was leaking due to the washing machine and kitchen taps being a bit clogged, got it cleared by a plumber but now I’m a bit worried about hearing it again when I flush...

Capped gas pipe begging oven plumbing advice

Capped gas pipe begging oven Hi all. Hope you are well.

So I fitted a new induction hob today for my father and whilst the old hob was off I saw that the old gas pipe for an old gas hob that has been capped off with a solder fixing is touching the back of the oven housing. I pulled that oven out slightly and it is not pushing the pipe much, like 1mm, but just wanted to check if you think it's ok to be touching the back of the oven? I mean it's not going to get hot enough to mess with the...

Replacing push fit Osma Gold for something else - tap change plumbing advice

Replacing push fit Osma Gold for something else - tap change Hi,

I know the fittings I have are Wavin Osma Gold and have done a fair bit of research into them, I just wanted to confirm once I try and demount the fitting with bent circlip pliers and discard the Osma, as long as I keep the original insert on the lower plastic main part.

That I will be ok to use Hep2o or JG speed fit etc?

The grey pipe is also Wavin and seeing as unless I cut the lower copper and used compression to flexis...

Ideal logic C35+ with Halo Lite RF ( not wi-fi) plumbing advice

Ideal logic C35+ with Halo Lite RF ( not wi-fi) Trying to find an answer to my question regarding "load compensation" Once Halo target temp of 20*c is reached , + another 5* (20'5*c) and the red flame in the display and green "demand" light
on the reciever go out, the boiler still kicks in and out every 5- 15 mins until end of program. From what i've read, this is due to the "load compesation" built into the Halo prt.
My question is.............when the load compensation is active ie...

Is that right to add inhibitor in boiler filter? plumbing advice

Is that right to add inhibitor in boiler filter? I had an engineer today added inhibitor in the boiler filter via Magnaclean when he did the boiler service after taking off the filter.

But before the engineers all added inhibitor in the radiators, and I searched online that majority information shows the inhibitor should be added in radiator.
So is it ok or right to add inhibitor in the boiler filter via Magnaclean?

Thanks for any input!

WANTED: Grasslin Famoso 601rf timer thermostat plumbing advice

WANTED: Grasslin Famoso 601rf timer thermostat Hello, the clock broke on my wireless mechanical timer thermostat for my baxi boiler.
The item is 20 years old now so someone might have a spare one from removing an old boiler.
The Grasslin famoso 601rf was supplied for several brands but its the same other than badge, e.g. baxi, ideal, alpha, grasslin.
Another variation has day&night temp dials rather than just one dial like below. Either will work for me.
If you have a spare or see one from a...

What is causing water hammer in my flat? plumbing advice

What is causing water hammer in my flat? Hello

I wonder can anyone shed any light on what is becoming an annoying problem?

I had a new stopcock installed in my second floor flat a year ago. This was intended to stop water hammer which had been taking place. However, recently the water hammer has returned and from what I can tell it occurs when water is used in the flat below mine, and possibly in other flats as well. The noise is a banging or crunching of metal sound and it can...
